    Newbie Mom needs Help

Mom of a current Doolie here - parent weekend is definitely for all years, including Doolies. It’s always over Labor Day weekend, so that makes it easy to plan. You won’t want to miss it!

    Mononucleosis

OP here, just back to update: I’m happy to report that DS does not have mono, but ‘just’ a case of influenza. I can’t say I’m happy he has influenza, but I’m overall thrilled that it’s not something that is going to keep him out potentially for months to recover, and possibly require a DODMERB...

    Mononucleosis

A few responses from the OP here: His AP Lit counts as his English class. He could keep it, or drop to Honors English. His entire high school schedule has been very STEM-focused. He had Honors Physics last year, in addition to AP Chemistry, Engineering, and Honors Computer Science. Even if he...

    2024 Process

I would add to check each nomination source and academy to see what form they need their letter of recommendation before approaching his teachers. Between the 7 different sources my son applied to (3 academies, 3 MOC, NROTC), they all wanted it differently. Some wanted a snail mail letter, some...

    Mononucleosis

DS has suspected mono and will have a blood test today to confirm. According to his BGO, he is 3Q and is just waiting along with everyone else to hear. My question is regarding his school schedule - DS has missed quite a bit this semester already due to feeling run down and his school...

    Multiple Nominations

Does having more than one nomination influence the decision making for acceptance in any way? I mean, I realize it’s kind of like having more than one ticket in a raffle, but does it influence the committee in terms of, “wow, this kid has multiple noms, we should give him extra consideration?” Thanks!

    NROTC question

Thank you for everyone’s responses. For a little further background information, our state flagship has an admitted student GPA of a 3.6 and middle 50% ACT range of 22-29. My son has a 3.85 and a 35 on the ACT, which would qualify him for direct admissions to the college of engineering...

    NROTC question

Do you HAVE to apply to 5 schools for the NROTC scholarship? DS is applying to 3 service academies, but his solid plan B is our state flagship to which he will easily be admitted. Our state flagship has an excellent engineering program and a solid NROTC unit, so DS would be very happy there...

    How involved should I be?

Thanks, everyone, for your quick responses. Because DS is still 17, it sounds like I’ll plan on going with him to DoDMERB, go to the beginning of the BGO interview only if invited, and sit in the car or a nearby coffee shop for the nomination interviews. I appreciate everyone’s help!

    How involved should I be?

My DS is applying to 3 service academies this year, with Navy being his first choice if he has the opportunity to choose. He just scheduled his DODMERB exams and will be scheduling his BGO interview later this week. I know this is very much a “candidates only” process, and I completely respect...

    Summer Seminar Packing Question

To previous attendees: does my son need to bring sheets and a blanket? I’m not seeing it on the list, but may be missing it. He needed them for NASS and SLE, but maybe not for Air Force?

Recommended shuttle from Denver to Colorado Springs

Thank you so much for the information - I really appreciate it!

Recommended shuttle from Denver to Colorado Springs

My son will be attending Summer Seminar this June and I am figuring out flights to get him there. There is currently a $400+ difference to fly into Colorado Springs vs. Denver, and no flights that arrive before 3 pm (they prefer you to arrive by noon). I’m looking for a safe, reliable shuttle...

SLE 2018 (Session 2) Travel Advice

MJ2020, my oldest DS had the same schedule 3 years ago - going from NASS to SLE. My DH flew out to pick him up and drive from Annapolis to West Point. The packing lists are similar, but the laundry is going to be key. All of DS’s stuff from NASS was very stinky and definitely needed a good wash...
