If this is truly their dream, if not selected the first time many reapply next year and spend a year at a local college or attend a military junior college with a SAP program. They will get that “college life” experience at a place like MMI who has an excellent record of cadets getting appointments.
DS was cleared literally a couple of days before Day One last year. This was for a muscle strain that he had suffered many months prior at MMI. The year before he went through the process with a sports hernia. Lots of fun.
MMI is like high school with a little military drilling sprinkled in. Tons of freeedom. They have a good faculty and many nice club activities such as diving and flight training. There’s plenty of freedom.....make sure to stay focused.
Many cadets at USCGA have gone through MMI. Most looking back are glad they had the “opportunity” to do so. My DS was grateful for the time spent at MMI and felt it gave him a leg up on direct appointees. He even said during swab that there was a bit of jealousy among them of those who had spent...
My DS likes to fly out of Providence. We live in Alaska and he’s been back and forth a number of times. He has also flown out of Newark and Hartford. Amtrak runs to Providence and will take you right to Newark airport as well.
There has been a trend recently of recruited athletes going to prep schools with CGAS and not participating in athletics during the prep year......for various reasons. DS was in the CGAS program last year and he knew a few cadets who were recruited athletes and not participating in team sports...
