JMHO, but just because it was removed from his credit report after the standard 7 yr time frame does not mean the "debt" is erased. We know that the debit isn't erased. But credit score is a big deal. He makes enough money, but wasn't able to buy a house, car, etc... without someone...

The reason I came back to update is that there has been a HUGE ironic twist to this story. With the new company he created there has been some grants and investors from Silicon Valley interested. And after applying for grants, guess who is offering a $125,000 grant? The Air Force Academy...
