    Leaving USAFA (Update #2)

Talk to your AOC. They can work this issue way better than anyone on here as they have the most current information about this kinda stuff.

    The Waiting Club

Have they changed the way they do the medical qualifications for appointees? Back in the day, I was "Nav qualified"until I did all of the graduation exams as a a cadet. I got a Falcon scholarship and now I'm a pilot, so just curious if they've changed the way they do things.

    AirForce Academy (PC or Mac)

USB CAC readers are less than $15. If you want to get you own computer, definitely do it.

Do they still do polygraphs for pilots?

You don't need a polygraph to get through UPT. All the posters who have said you may need one later on are correct (there are some optional USAFA programs that actually do require them), but simply to get a TS/SCI and a pilot slot/wings, it definitely isn't a requirement.

    Rated Job Questions

Yeah you can get any rated job out of USAFA with any major. Let me know if you have more specific questions and I can ask some friends I know in CSO training or some former CSOs down here at UPT.

    alcohol question

They honestly just want to know if you've abused alcohol to the point where you've needed treatment or gotten caught up in some misconduct. Trust me, if they wanted to know the details of individual consumption, they would ask more directly, like they do with marijuana or other substances...

    Inflamed Ribs

It's pretty common to get some sort of exercise restriction during BCT, at least temporarily after an injury. When he was seen by medical, they would have generated a form (Form 18) that outlines any restrictions. Cadre are responsible for making sure basics follow said restrictions...

    I made a mistake

Not really? Time under the code is one of the major things the Academy looks at when evaluating whether or not to retain or separate someone who's been found in violation of the Honor Code (ie, a 4* who commits the same offense as a firstie may be more likely to be retained since they have much...

    Parent weekend

Are they not allowed to stay on Friday anymore? When I was there, they were cleared off Friday night, just had to be present Saturday for the game...

    Pilot Test

I think the OP is talking about the AFOQT and TBAS, but wanted to make a note here- Honestly, USAFA doesn't really screen people for aptitude for flying in its basic airmanship programs. All airmanship programs are pass/fail and don't affect whether or not you can get a pilot slot...with the...

    USAFA Soaring IP How-To?

Biggest thing you can do until you get to soaring is get good grades and be a good 4*-to some extent, summer program selection is merit based, so set yourself up for success with a good OPA. A note with that...if you start to struggle with techie classes, don't feel like you need to be an...

    ROTC scholarship or falcon foundation

I turned down an AFROTC scholarship for a Falcon scholarship a few years ago. Not an easy decision, but I'm glad I took the year to prepare for USAFA. It's going to have to be your decision, but I think both are solid paths to commission, it just depends what you want. Happy to answer questions...

    Various Questions about Appointee Forms

    1. USAA is wayyy better than Armed Forces Bank. Do whatever you want, but I would recommend getting a USAA account as soon as you're able to. 2. If you don't want SGLI, don't pay for the policy. It's not a one time deal. You can scale all the way down to a 40k policy or no policy at all, and you...

    Out of country Travel

There are actually quite a few opportunities to travel to the Middle East while at a service academy, whether for a semester or for a 3-4 week summer program. And before you say "those programs have close supervision from US officers"...they really don't. They'll let the cadets/mids stay with...

    Scoliosis/pilot training

Yeah, but that's not the point. Pulling your pin and preparing your ejection seat before every sortie isn't optional, and that's why ejection seat procedures are emphasized so highly in the T-6. The Martin Baker ejection seat has a pretty decent success rate, but the T-6 ejection system has hurt...
