Why are academically qualified candidates receiving Falcon Foundation Scholarships?

Something worth considering… how competitive is Plan B? Is it UVA or Directional State? Does it place graduates in the fields the student is interested in? This is not elitism or arrogance, it is just the real world. Graduating at 21 from a less prestigious school will not yield the same...

Is double majoring a possibility in the AFA?

Yes- I was a Political Science & Economics double major. It was difficult… some majors overlap more than others. I graduated with169 credit hours. See page 115 here: https://www.usafa.edu/app/uploads/2023-2024-COI.pdf#page115

    Standards in Free Fall

It’s not just about “changing traditions,” it looks like an attitude of risk aversion. I’m not giving credit or blame for that to any one person, but it is the antithesis of the Robin Olds attitude.

I can’t speak to success in combat, but there are direct examples of POWs crediting their Academy experiences for sustaining them through captivity. I'm a reserve mission support officer in a mostly remote staff assignment. I’m about as far from a fighter pilot as you can get. But I fully...

    Danner - Tachyon v Rivot

I loved my Danner Tachyons on active duty. As a reservist, with the move from ABUs to OCPs I bought some cheapo boots and will probably replace them with Tachyons. I love my Danner Skyridge civilian hiking boots, spent all day in them on Saturday out and about with my Cub Scouts.

I think we marched to breakfast a few times, but it wasn't a regular occurrence. We had common GRs at 0600 for core classes, so they may have kept the pre-breakfast schedule clear for that.

    Standards in Free Fall

What makes this painful for the Grad community is that we have been here before. No ****, so there I was... August 2005 The Supe, a Citadel grad who implemented sweeping changes after the sexual assault scandal, is on his way out. The Comm, a USAFA grad fighter pilot who would carry around...

It’s ok for training to be hard just for the sake of being hard, to push you to your limits and realize you are capable of more than you thought. I hope our leadership doesn’t forget that.

    Concerns about ALO Interview

I can get what I need to complete my evaluation in 30 minutes. If an interview is that short it means the candidate gave me the bare minimum answers and usually ends up with a very average eval. My strongest candidates end up at 1 hour +. They elaborate in their answers, tell good stories...

Why do people attend the Academy?

I'll echo Hoodlum... the opportunities are completely unmatched anywhere else in the world. The only catch is you have to put out the effort to apply, volunteer, and excel once you're at USAFA to get them. Here are the highlights from my experience: -Academics: Double major in Political Science...
