    Dropping Scholarship

Back in 2016, DS was able to switch to from Engineering Management to Business Analytics. It doesn't happen often, but it happened in his situation. He's doing well out in the fleet.

Congratulations - feeling a little nostalgic.

DS was one of 13 (of an original 25) to commission as Ensigns this weekend at RPI. So great to see such a close knit group of young men and women take this first step towards their new duties. It was great to see many of the AFROTC students in the audience at the NROTC commissioning. DS...

    Senior Prank advice

As a 25 year HS teacher (who has a son commissioning next Friday....YEAH!!!), I can concur. Most senior pranks are pretty lame, yet administration seems to always want to swat a housefly with a sledgehammer. In our building, our 160 or so seniors all have their lockers on opposite sides of...

    Ship Selection Night -- Tonight!

Truly enjoyed watching last night's ship selection. Congratulations to the midshipmen for their first assignments. DS is 1 1/C NROTC SWO candidate and is looking forward to making his selection in a few weeks. His old man is an old Yeoman, and found website...

Spring SWO Ship Selection List is out

https://www.public.navy.mil/surfor/Pages/Spring-2019-ROTC-Ship-Selection.aspx For those of you that have senior NROTC SWO candidates, they've posted the billet list for February's ship selection.

Camraderie among service branches at universities?

DS is a senior at RPI, and for the last two years, he has roomed with six other ROTC students (2 NROTC and 4 AFROTC). From everything I have learned from him, there is the typical unit pride and competition, but ultimately, they realize that they're "all in this together" and truly get along...

    References for NROTC

As a teacher, whose DS is a senior NROTC student, I concur. Please make sure that your teachers check their SPAM folder. It is absolutely amazing what I find in there.

    NROTC question

I can certainly attest to the situation at RPI. A very generous situation that they have set up for their ROTC students. DS is scheduled to graduate and commission through NROTC in May.

    Injury during app process?

Well, technically speaking.....it could hurt. That was the point of the post. But you're right. Overall, it could certainly help you increase your score.

Best Way to Avoid being a lousy "Butter Bar" 2nd LT after ROTC & SA??

What a great thread. Son is scheduled to commission NROTC next spring. I shared a link to this thread with him, and suggested he bookmark this, and read through it periodically. Captain MJ, BTCS/USN, truly appreciate your well thought out responses.

What To Do With The Big Check???

I like this idea. Just like "Flat Stanley" from the children's book. I hauled Flat Stanley around for months for my nephew, and took dozens upon dozens of photos with him, so my nephew could complete a big assignment for his class.

    Well Regarded NROTC Units

This is great advice. DS applied and got into many schools, and visited most of them. Visited Texas A&M, Miami University, Ohio St., Purdue and last trip was to RPI and PSU. He absolutely fell for the RPI campus, size of the student body, cancelling his Penn St. trip. Get out to see as many...

    Justice Kennedy retiring

Supreme Court nominations are a great lesson in my government classes. Starting in one corner of the room in the year the nomination and confirmation takes place, I slowly pace across the room, ticking off the years, demonstrating to the students just how long the legacy of a President's...

    Notified Captain, still receiving email

Not to mention that it might open up a spot for a qualified NROTC candidate that would still jump at the chance to accept a position, if it were offered, even at this date and time.

    Plebe Summer Items

Much easier to do the induction physical that way. :D
