    College Programmer Gets Scholarship

Terp, congrats! Is your DS at University of Maryland College Park (judging by your username) and doing NROTC through the George Washington University unit? I'm heavily considering going through this route (college programmer too) - is there any way we can get in contact?

    Mistake accepting appointment?

Nick, would you mind sharing what the officers are saying regarding NROTC being a better option than USNA? I've been rejected this year and may be in your shoes the same time next year.

    Maryland Senator Noms?

I got my letter from Sen. Cardin in the mail today (dated Jan 12). Not good news, but I'm working something out with my representative so it may work out in the end :)

    Maryland Senator Noms?

I did put down USNA. The board did ask me during my interview if I applied to other service academies and to rank them which I noticed they wrote down - does this have bearing on anything? At any rate, thanks for the reassurance. Not much, but still good to know I'm still in the running!

    Maryland Senator Noms?

I'm MD-04 and got notification just today: a nomination, but not to my first choice, USNA. I realize that I am very fortunate to receive a nomination at all and that USNA in this area is by far more competitive, but I would still like to be considered by Sen. Cardin (got rejected by Sen...

    visit weekends

I live about 45 minutes away from Annapolis and want to schedule a weekday visit so I can sit in on classes. Has anyone done this? What should I keep in mind? Can I request to stick with a midshipman who is taking classes I am interested in?

    Best SAT books?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/842002-official-sat-study-guide-2nd-edition.html 2nd edition has 10 tests vs 8 in the 1st, 6 of which are the same in both books anyways.

    Best SAT books?

I found the best way to study was to do a full length practice test and go over my mistakes. In this respect, the book doesn't matter as long as it has full length tests. Don't forget that your local library has tons of SAT books and the year doesn't matter either as long as it's after 2005...

    Nomination acceptance question

I read it as that your congresswoman will not be able to help you in the admissions process beyond providing the nomination and to work with the academy towards an appointment. (and of course send a letter to them to accept your nomination) Congratulations!

    Spring CVW

Contact your RD and explain your situation. You'll probably be able to get one because you've gotten an invitation in the past anyways. When I called, my RD said there are three CVWs left (all after the holidays of course).

    Backup Plans!

I'm sure there is tons of discussion about enlisting in other threads - it comes down to what opportunities you want and where they will come from. I'm going to assume you have thought about what you want to do in the air force and how achievable that is - going in just for military experience...

    Backup Plans!

Why is ROTC a waste of time? You get a college education and a commission no different from one from the Academy. If you don't think it is worth your time, you should reconsider your reasons for going to USAFA and becoming an officer.

Officials Confirm Authenticity of Iranian TV Images Showing Lost U.S. Drone

I still don't understand why this is a misconception. I read the relevance as more an indication of how technologies one way or another will eventually be countered and defeated because it is easier to find an crack than be on the other side, patching up every crack. As I understand it, the...

Officials Confirm Authenticity of Iranian TV Images Showing Lost U.S. Drone

U-2 was considered invincible on account of operational altitude up until the shoot down, wasn't it? Just as invincible as stealth is...

    DOBMERB still missing

I would definitely call the admissions office - I've found emails tend to get lost or put on the back burner, but the admissions staff has always promptly helped me on the phone.
