TAMU Corps units
I would encourage your son to have a set list of questions to ask the units he is interested in. My son is a current "fish" in S-1 . After Spend the night with the corps he was still unsure of which unit he was going to join and finally made his mind up after the ice cream...
Should be a good time for the new fish coming in! Mine seems to be very happy with his unit he choice. His dad's company at USMA was also Spartan's. So I guess its in the blood to be a Spartan :)
You have it correct. You will pay for your books upfront and get reimbursed sometime in September via direct deposit. The stipend amount is 350 per semester. Hope this helps.
March 8, 2011 AROTC Board
Just received notification from #1 school my DS has been awarded a 4-year AROTC scholarship . He has the option of choosing from #1 or #2 school. The notification was also noted on the AROTC status page.
I am looking forward to meeting all the parents and learning more about the Corps of Cadets. I know many Aggies or Aggie parents and the TX A & M tradition is stronger than USMA or USNA grads. Aggies are a loyal bunch of very good people.
My DS called mid-January and was told they were still reviewing files, but all candidates should hear something over the next several weeks. No news so far.
From what I understand about the process, once you accept your NROTC scholarship you can request a unit change at that time; after all scholarships have been awarded the board will then look at the requests for unit transfer which will be in mid-March to April.
Just received News
My DS just received his notification of NROTC scholarship award on Dec 27. His application was completed early October.
He is now patiently/anxiously waiting on good news from USNA and USMA.
Good Luck to all and Congrats to all who have received your scholarships and...
Hello Just saw your post about your daughter's appointment to USNA. Congrats! You all must be very excited what a Christmas present. We are from Texas as well, our son hasn't heard any news since he received his academically qualified letter and Nomination. He is patiently waiting .
