    Housing After Commissioning

For new Army LTs, resist the urge to live “downtown” in whatever large city is near your post. Living closer to the post and then traveling “downtown” on the weekends makes live so much better! Get a hotel room if you want to “party.” You will most likely save on BAH compared to living near/in...

Is it too late to go to the Academy? Do I have a shot? Anxious and discontent

Good luck during the application process! I went to civilian college for two years before going to West Point. It’s not too late. Ensure you don’t waste your experiences at civilian school pining for USNA/USMA, though. Especially if you go to an academy, you want those memories!

Going to West Point after three, yes three, years of college.

I went to a large state school for two years and then went to West Point. 18 years after graduating I am still serving. 21 isn’t that old in the grand scheme of things.

    Thin White Envelope

It seems the Admissions Staff used the wrong form letter when screening for inactivity instead of academic performance. Glad the candidate is still pursuing admission!

    Thin White Envelope

Was there a suspense given by the RC to complete the CFA retake? If they gave a suspense and that he passed, that could trigger a “screened” letter.

    Unweighted vs. Weighted GPA

Class rank is what matters for the whole candidate score. Your transcript matters so admissions can check to ensure you took the prerequisites.

How much does gpa matter if there's no class rank?

They will impute a class rank based on your standardized test score percentile. If you are on the 99th percentile for the ACT than you will receive a class rank of 1 out of 100.

Longer service obligation for SA grads under review

They should only command a company if they want to. But they should be staying in the Active Army longer than 5 years. The Army is not getting a return on its investment compared to what it gets for ROTC dollars.

Longer service obligation for SA grads under review

West Point is having no problem attracting top talent. Northern Virginia Districts have ten elite candidates per district (only 2 or 3 get in). They should start increasing the commitment length to align what is best for the Army with the current market demand.

Longer service obligation for SA grads under review

I am not advocating changing commitment lengths for currently serving officers. It would have to be advertised for incoming classes to USMA. This would mean that officers graduating from USMA would have four years to internalize their commitment. They would expect to serve through company level...

Longer service obligation for SA grads under review

It’s not envy, I’m an Academy Grad. It’s that the US Government is spending an incredible amount of money on a cohort of officers who are barely serving through their “intern” time in the Army. Company Command is the most impactful time for company grade officers and West Point grads should...

Longer service obligation for SA grads under review

West Point is having the most competitive classes in its history with over 15k people applying for 1100-1200 spots. USMA should take advantage of that and increase the active service commitment through expected company command completion. If we scare away the “elite” candidate who is going to...

    CFA question

If I could star this post, I would.

Am I Competitive? What should I Do Next?

Your SATs are low. I recommend you take the ACT. Most people do better on it in relation to the Whole Candidate Score Algorithm.
