Not to be too negative, but I'd say about half the things you're "tired of" don't go away after plebe year. That's just life in the military. Overall it does get better though.
Yes. Even now, airlines don't care about helicopter hours. They are only really looking for fixed wing hours, with multi-engine hours preferred. Most helicopter pilots that want to go to the airlines have to try to get fixed wing hours somehow before getting out. Best way to do that is...
As said earlier, longevity for Company Officers depends mostly on community. For pilots and NFOs, Company Officer at USNA is absolutely a career killer. SWO, subs, etc. not so much.
We don't know the exact cause of the crash yet, but it appears very likely it had to do with weather. Unfortunate as the situation is, every aircraft commander has the authority and responsibility to make a go/no-go decision after analyzing all aspects of the mission. We'll have to wait and...
The US has been punched in the face while Iran stands over us laughing and Biden crawls away crying.
Regardless of your political views, it's hard to deny that this administration's incompetence has made us a laughing stock that nobody takes seriously anymore. 24 hours after a fatal attack on...
I agree that a lot of school credentials have lost their value recently, specifically most colleges. A high school diploma is not hard to get though. It shows a basic level of commitment to show up and finish school. It's just the continuing lowering of standards with hope as a plan.
SpaceX has left NASA in the dust in terms of technological capability. The DoD has no choice but to rely on SpaceX for certain things now since NASA is either unable to do them at all, or the cost would be prohibitive.
Standards are not arbitrary. You either achieve a certain score or you don't. You have a qualification or you don't. Saying that there is only a perception that standards have been lowered is naivety. Standards have been objectively lowered in numerous instances across the military.

The solution to declining recruitment and retention isn't to continue lowering standards. That will only make more qualified people want to get out or not join in the first place.
After graduating high school you will never see 90% of your high school class again. I saw maybe 10 people when I went home for the summer at USNA, and now 9 years post USNA graduation I still keep in regular contact with 1 person from high school. Don't worry about what they think. Most...
US military has grounded all Osprey's pending further investigation. There has been a disproportionate amount of fatal accidents with the Osprey in the last decade. Some have been due to pilot error, but the majority have been due to design defects/mechanical failure or unanticipated flight...
Not saying "double winging" isn't possible, but in my nine years in the Navy I've never seen a single one. Closest thing I ever saw was a NFO student who got kicked out of the Strike NFO syllabus for not cutting it and transferred over to the Helo pilot syllabus. It just isn't worth it for the...
