My son initially very interested in USNA and USMA. Wanted to go subs and major in engineering. Established an excellent relationship with his BGO and was waitlisted. Meanwhile was heavily recruited by IVYs,MIT, and other service academies for football and academics. Got in those places but...

My son had 33 in Math and English. He got in yesterday for Class of 2016.
However, he committed to West Point months ago. He will play ball there too.
Thank you for the wonderful posts! It is nice to see people having similar concerns. I appreciate your concern Buff1 but I think quote is being over done in my case. I grew up in W.P. household and served 10y. Your absolutely correct on the SAs mission and we emphasize that daily to our son who...
The posts are great and very educational to us. My son did SLS at Navy/West Point. He loved it and wants to be an officer. His mother and myself are making things much more complicated for him since the IVYs came knocking. His interest is engineering and the academies are very solid.
My son not picking a place based on football but on the quality of education. He does not mind serving after graduation. The question is whether there is a difference in the quality of education, the marketability of the institution, etc.. Forbes loves the academies whereas Us News seems...
My son being recruited for football by both. Can they be compared to each other? Son leaning toward the Point but the "elites" tend to disparage the Academies academics. We are awed by W.P./Navy. Are the IVYs a step above?
I agree with Big Nick. My son was recruited by W.P. for football. He was told he needed to be tripled Q which he is. He received a nom yesterday for WP and Navy.
Everyone's thoughts are really good. A colleague of mine runs a physician residency program. He is a university of Chicago grad but is most happy when he has service academy grads in his residency program. He calls them by far his best students. Interesting to hear that. I guess that runs...
Hawk,
thank you for the excellent post! My son has been motivated to go to USMA/USNA for years. Its his parents that are concerned after reading the initial post above by former grad John Reed. I am interested in your take on that gentlemans opinoin.
Im really happy to hear from grads/students. As a parent it makes my wonder about having my son go there. That article only intensified our efforts to redirect away from West Point. A WP grad at my church only has very good things to say about the academy. We r feeling better about the academies...
