ROTC at an SMC vs. traditional university

I would also like to add North Georgia to the list. My son's #1 school was VMI all the way (especially because we live in VA), but once he visited and toured NGCSU he loved it. He gets the best of both worlds, civilian and military. Plus, they have more money to give out in scholarships, and...

He might drop out of ROTC

Peridot, I was feeling the same way as you during Christmas break. My son was saying that he has until first day of school this fall to stay or leave. He's at a smc where it's mostly commuters and everyone leaves on the weekends. He hasn't been to a single party and always complains there's...

    Reimbursement

My son still hasn't been reimbursed for his travel expenses to school in the fall. He was told everyone there is having the same issues.

Life at senior military school vs SA's

My son is at senior military school and his gf is at a SA. She was a top notch student in high school, 4.8!! While he was a 2.8 student. She had a real hard time at SA. She eventually ended up having pretty good grades, but not the straight A's she was used to in h.s. Her classes were also...

    Birth Control?

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, just wasn't sure exactly where to put it, since it's a general question for all the academies. Are women allowed to be on birth control at any of the academies?

    Campus Based Scholarships

My son was told at his interview at the school that they could pretty much guarantee him a scholarship. We waited and waited. No change in status. Finally, in April he called the school and was told he was not awarded a scholarship. Then mid-May the school called him and asked him if he was...

Heads up for those using AROTC scholarship for Room & Board

Ours was different. Ours showed that room and board was paid for by scholarship. Stipend started in September or October and then at the end of the semester my son got a big lump sum of money in his account. COuldn't figure what it was for. That was because he doesn't read his emails...

    military college changes!

I can pretty much guarantee you could get into NGCSU. Now VMI, that's a little more competitive, but it's not out of reach. Although with those scores they will pretty much tell you they won't offer you a scholarship.

    North Georgia College

My son is a freshman there right now. "Got accepted but I've never really heard much about it, but that could be either a good thing or a bad thing. I just have some basic questions about it that maybe you guys would know the answers to" We also had never heard of it (even his high...

    North Georgia compared to VMI/Norwich

My son is a freshman cadet there. They also have many AROTC scholarships to give out, national and campus based. :thumb: Here's some info on their study abroad program: http://www.northgeorgia.edu/Global/StudyAbroad/

    ROTC Scholarship Dilemma

My son's school, North Georgia College, has been ranked #1 battallion two years in a row.

    North Georgia compared to VMI/Norwich

I believe at VMI freshmen aren't allowed off campus until Thanksgiving. At NGC they have one closed weekend a month for drilling, but other than that the cadets are allowed off campus any time. Freshmen cadets (first semester) and cadets who have below a 2.5 are put on quarters for the...

North Georgia vs. The Citadel or VMI

We are from Northern Virginia, and my son wanted to enlist in the military right out of high school. I told him he really needed a college education, so a military school was a compromise for us. He was VMI all the way. We visited the campus 3-4 times and met with recruiters. They told...
