    Scholarships in the USNA

I don't believe this is technically correct - at least for 4/c, 3/c and 2/c years. MIDN pay is the same for a given class on a monthly basis (i.e., all 4/c are paid the same, all 3/c are paid the same, all 2/c are paid the same). If no ACE loan for a given MIDN, then held pay will be higher...

Hotels USNA Annapolis 2016 I-Day PPW Parents Weekend Commissioning Week CVW

Force Protection Condition was changed from Alpha to Bravo in May 2015 and has been at that level ever since. No driving on the Yard without USNA ID, DoD creds or handicap tags. Here is text from a press release from that date: USNA Changes Security Posture POSTED ON: FRIDAY, MAY 15, 2015...

Class of 2020 USNA Appointment Thread

@Blessedmom - You might want to just call the admissions office and ask them directly rather than stressing. I spoke to them a few years back when we were getting this done for DS and they were very helpful. Good luck!

    Glasses during plebe summer

No, Plebes don't have to wear the issued shoes. I think USNA realized some years back that far fewer Plebes end up with bad shin splints or other injuries if they wear running shoes that are already broken in!

    NY Nominations

FYI - Gillibrand issued 7 Press Releases (covering different areas of NY) with names of those nominated to SAs. If interested they can be found via the link below: http://www.gillibrand.senate.gov/newsroom/press/ Good luck to all of those nominated!

    Chance Me? (Sorry)

Also remember that the "new" SAT format rolls out in March so your score on the "old" test may not be indicative of how you will do on the new one. I also recommend taking the ACT. DS initially took the SAT and then took the ACT on a bit of a whim. Turns out he had high Math from one format...

    Eyesight issues

You can look at USNA medical requirements and compare with your specific situation. Specific vision item you will be interested in is: 1) Vision not correctable to 20/20 in both eyes is disqualifying. Refractive error exceeding + or –8.00 diopters and astigmatism exceeding 3.00 diopters is...

How exactly to the "national" nominations work?

Just as a point of comparison - Notre Dame class of 2019 shows 23% children of alumni! That's a pretty selective school so I think fair to say there is much more of a 'bump' for legacy children vs the 'bump' at USNA with only 5% legacy.

    About I-day

Per USNA calendar, the tentative date for I-Day for class of 2020 is 30 June 2016. http://www.usna.edu/Academics/_files/documents/calendars/170.pdf

    2020 Appointments

BFE can take awhile at this time of year - unfortunately! As a point of comparison, DS had an LOA and was notified of Senator Nom (by phone) on 12/20/2013. The BFE didn't arrive until 01/22/2014 - felt like an eternity! Hopefully your DS hears sooner - the BFE will come! Keep calm and carry on.

    Service Selection

For what it's worth, DS (3/C at USNA) tells me that for SEAL officers the Navy has stopped/severely limited lat transfers from the fleet. I also understand that the increase in USNA slots for SEAL selection to 38 for class of 2016 from 30 the last few years was at the expense of OCS & NROTC...

    LOA but concerned about Nomination

Your MOCs are notified of LOAs. However, I agree with Letsdothis and call the MOCs office to make sure! Good luck!

Is holiday break over on 1/5/16 for plebes? Thank you.

@USNA 19 DAD - NY Parent's club has bus leaving at noon on 8 Jan from near Penn Station. Target is to arrive by 16:00 or so well in advance of 20:00 end of leave. You might want to reach out to NJ Parent's club to confirm where the 3 Jan timing came from....

    LOAs

I think the advice in not over hyping an LOA is valid. However, I don't think the value of an LOA should be minimized either. The numbers are something like this each year (all gathered from this forum and/or from data put out by USNA): LOA = approx. 150 (anecdotal from discussions on this...

    Parking at football game

With the 'dant last year liberty was given after every football win and for 'fighting hard' against Notre Dame and Ohio State. Not sure anyone knows how free this 'dant will be with 'meritorious' weekends. However, it's a good bet that beating Army will always get an overnight! ;-)
