    What constitutes a “reach” school?

Can confirm this. I had a 1460 SAT, 4.2 WGPA and was rejected by UT Austin, but accepted into West Point. Georgia Tech is also a reach school for any out-of-state applicant.

Are the Bates Durashocks worth the the extra $100? The reviews for them online aren't exactly glowing...

    Tennis at USMA

Anyone know if there is a club/ intramural tennis team at West Point? I enjoy playing tennis, but I'm not a D-1 level player, and I haven't found anything on the USMA website regarding a club team. If there isn't a club team, is it worth sending in my racket with my parents on A-day? Do cadets...

Allowed to have ____ Plebe Year?

Okay thanks, when I visited WP in the fall, one of the upperclassmen had a speaker, wasn't sure about plebes.

    Doubts after acceptance

I had a similar experience after I received my nomination for USMA. What I did to reaffirm my commitment was to look past the tradition, prestige, and monetary value of attending the academy, and ask myself, is this still something I want? Do I want to be an army officer? I am willing to die for...

Allowed to have ____ Plebe Year?

Anyone know about a bluetooth speaker? Also, I am a big video game fan as well, if consoles are allowed Yuk year, are TV's and/or monitors allowed as well? Just feel they would take up a lot of room in the dorms...

    Portal vs BFE

No I did get the call from my MOC first, just saying that my BFE came before my portal was updated. And thanks, good luck!

    Chemistry at USMA

Great info, I guess I'll take the validation test and if I get into the advanced class then great, if not it's certainly not the end of the world. Like your daughter, I can't stand when classes go at a crawling pace.

Received appointment... and an F+ in calculus

I wouldn't think so, I got an A 1st marking period in my Advanced Algebra class, then a B second semester. Depending on your relationship with your Bio teacher, I would recommend getting a rec letter from the teacher explaining the extenuating circumstances and vouching for you as an overall...

    Chemistry at USMA

Ok, I'm planning on majoring in International Relations, so I don't think testing into advanced chemistry is necessary, considering I'll certainly have enough on my my plate with my other classes and activities. Unless, does taking the advanced version of the class boost your class rank at all...

Received appointment... and an F+ in calculus

While I'm not an expert on the admissions board, I would imagine a 4.57 is certainly not a detriment to you. I was just appointed yesterday with a 4.15 weighted GPA. How are your SAT and/or ACT scores?

    Chemistry at USMA

I'm in advanced chemistry right now, do you know the difficulty of the validation test? Also, what's the benefit of validating? If I were to just take the freshman version, would I also have to take a higher level chemistry down the line, or is only one chemistry course required?
