    Nomination Troubles

Correct me if I am wrong, but I got the impression that there was not an "application" for the VP nom. It was just 1 slot per year that is managed by the SA to grace one deserving prospect a golden ticket to the fun factory.

    Doolie Grades

My mistake. 68th percentile. Right about the top 1/3 of the class.

    Doolie Grades

My DS is a Doolie this year. He got a 3.5 his first semester and when rankings came out, he was at about the 32d percentile. It looks like a fair number of students do well from this one datapoint, but he also has a slightly larger share of AcPro students in his sqdn compared to others. The...

    Service Academy Covid-19 vaccine policy

The worst part of the policy last year was despite all the cadets having vaccinations going in, Covid ran rampant throughout the formations during BCT. Lots of missed training as cadets went into isolation.

    Body Fat Measurement Disqualification

Last year at this time, my DS had someone in his church group that was also applying for USAFA. He was over body fat since he had a thin neck. An athletic young man and healthy. He was working on his plan B/C. In the April timeframe, he retaped and passed. They are both doolies now. Do not...

    Accepted Appointment - Now What?

Hang loose and enjoy your senior year. At some point in the spring, a packet will open with lots of requirements. For now, you can make sure your immunizations are up to date, and that you have a bank account established. Get your flu shot. It is hard to get one in the Spring when you see you...

    Quality of LOR “other” choices

If the GO writes in a way that talks about your son then yes. If he mainly refers to good family, great upbringing, or things more nebulous, then they don't hold as much weight. As a GO, I would hope they know how to write a quality LOR. That is why a quality resume with activities and...

    Another CFA question!

If USAFA gave 30 days, I would have her train for 26 days, rest for two and then look for the best weather for days 29 or 30. Great job on improvement, but there is still time to finesse a couple more situps or shave a few seconds off the run.

What do the Cadre think of the cadets

My Doolie DS heard early on that leadership felt like there were not enough "spirit missions" (approved shenanigans) happening. He took it as a personal challenge to remedy this situation in his sqdn. Needless to say, he is now the paperwork expert on getting these things approved. He has the...

    Submit CFA?

When I was running that app with my DS last year, it looked like 7:40 was the break point for males on the run. He came in at 7:38 and three steps later he blew chunks. That is the way to put out for your dream. He is now a doolie and living the life. 4 more days until we see him again.

    Letter of Interest?

This wording has all the characteristics of the LOA my DS received from USMA last year. The "A spot in the USAFA Class of 202X will be reserved for you provided you meet all admission requirements, to include a qualified medical status." says that if you become 3Q, you are in. Time to get...

    The Decision

You have to look at two main things with this decision... 1) Are you looking to serve your country or are you looking for a career in the Air Force serving? 2) Is your goal to get a pilot slot? If you mainly want to serve, I would say to stay the ROTC route since you are already heading down...

    Question about Pull-ups (CFA)

Pretty good product. Be sure to put socks over the ends to keep the rubber protectors from putting black marks all over the door frame.

How are there enough nominations to go around?

USNA will generally not mess with waivers if they do not think a candidate is competitive. With that said, this is very reassuring. As noted before, this LOA identifies what must be met to get the golden ticket. It looks like the NOM interview is the key. Your NOM source can nominate up to...

    CFA - Results Not Posted

It is the Regional commander that reviews the videos. Ours typically did batches once to twice a week. If it goes beyond 4 weeks, just drop a quick email to your FFR to check for you. After 6-7 weeks, go direct to the commander. Big things right now are the SOEs and getting med knocked out.
