    Obesity in ROTC?

You can do it. A female cadet enrolled in AROTC when my daughter was a freshman. Very similar weight hurdle. It took her a year but she passed the fitness/weight requirements, got a scholarship and later her commission.

    Todays the day....COMMISSIONING!!!

The quarter systems drags many things out, including commissioning ceremonies. Our DD was commissioned a 2LT in the United States Army on Saturday along with 7 other cadets from Cal Poly. It was a beautiful day, the ceremony was very nice and the guest speaker (a general who commands the Army...

    Todays the day....COMMISSIONING!!!

Congratulations to everyone. We need to wait until June 14th for the big day for our daughter. It seems like just a few moments ago we were all trying to figure out the scholarship process and now here we are... Great job by all of these young people. Side note to K2, our DS accepted...

    Pay and BOLC questions

There is a cadet in my daughter's battalion that did this path. She graduated from college in CA, enrolled in University of Washington School of Law and joined the Washington National Guard. I do not know which branch she selected. It seems possible to do.

    AROTC Health Insurance

A few things we learned about AD coverage for ROTC: 1. When on AD such as CULP or LDAC a cadet is covered by TRICARE, the armed forces insurance. 2. As soon as they go off AD status (return from CULP or LDAC) TRICARE no longer covers the cadet. 3. A cadet that in injured while on AD but...

    Commissioning just weeks away....

Also feeling like K2. However, we're waiting until mid-June for graduation and commissioning. Our DD's have followed similar paths...mine also missed a quarter due to knee injury incurred at LDAC.

ROTC Schol: Waiver not completed by May 1st

We had a similar situation. DD accepted to OOS school. We were dependent on ROTC scholarship to attend. Some financial and DODMERB issues came up. She had been admitted ED to the OOS school. According to the rules you are supposed to withdraw all other admission requests when accepted for ED...

    Post BOLC Move

My DD expects to find out her first assignment (duty station?) before she commissions. I believe she told me that she is supposed to know 30 days before commissioning. For her this would be finding out by mid-May. DD also said that the assignments can change up until the moment they get travel...

    Post BOLC Move

I know there are several contributors who have a bit of experience with moving locations in the military. My DD is planning to put her apartment furniture into a POD. She should know where she will be stationed by the time she moves out of her college apartment prior to going to BOLC. By using a...

    Housing during BOLC

OK, my DD got her date (July 14) and is set on driving cross country.

    Housing during BOLC

OK, I was just surprised this would be allowed. Paying for someone to drive from West Coast to East Coast for 2500 miles will be a lot more expensive than flying. I was expecting the Army would determine which mode of transportation it wanted used. My DD is planning to drive and I was surprised...

    Housing during BOLC

Slightly off topic but I wanted to ask about transportation to BOLC. Does the cadet have any choice in whether to drive or fly? If you fly, is there any allowance to rent a car in the BOLC local area?

    LDAC Question from a parent

Also, many cadets who are local to LDAC (Ft. Lewis and now Ft. Knox) will be allowed to leave locally IF and only IF they have a local escort (typically parents). This requires parents to show up the morning of the ceremony. I would guess that every parent who attended our DD's graduation was...

    LDAC Question from a parent

We also live near Ft. Lewis and a lot of parents attended our daughter's graduation. I would expect many parents in the Ft Knox area will attend.
