    Class of 2023 Graduation

Haven't been on this site for a few years, but your question caught my attention. The first main event typically takes place on Monday and is the parade where the seniors "separate" from the rest of the wing. Tuesday is reserved for commissioning and is a "must" for parents and close family...

    Types of Leadership

My two cents: If you're a scout, become an Eagle Scout. If you're on a sports team, become a captain. If you're on the Chess Club, become the president. The academy wants leaders.....so, plain and simple, be a leader in high school regardless of whether your passion is scouting, tackling...

    Car insurance

OMG, drop your cadet's car insurance that you're paying for! Insurance follows the car and state laws in every state require car insurance, so if your cadet borrows a car, he/she is covered under the owners insurance. Once he/she gets his own car (junior year), have them buy a policy from...

    Thudgate: Falcon Football

Way back in 2010 when our son started at the Academy, my wife and I were on this forum several times a day. Just like many of you, we were grateful to have such a wealth of information on all things Academy. Prior to our first Parents Weekend, we read Christcorp's post about Thudgate and...

    Parents Weekend Football game

We disagree with "get the cheap seats." USAFA football is already the least expensive venue we've watched D-1 football. Seats close to the 50 yard line are a deal at $35 in the middle section and $25 in the upper section. Similar seats in the Big House are close to $150 to see Mich play UCF...

    Parents Weekend Lodging

And as to Parents Weekend hotels for Saturday and Sunday, consider the 4 star hotels in the Westminster/Broomfield area. (Westin, Omni, etc.) They cater mostly to business travel, so rates are lower than usual. (I just checked and the Westin is $169 for a room, the 3 star Doubletree is...

    Parents Weekend Lodging

Unfortunately all of these great trips are coming to an end. We are in the final stretch. Congratulations on making it to the final stretch and graduation is the crown jewel of visits to the Academy. However, there are still many great trips ahead. Our son graduated in 2014 and we've already...

    Grass roots programs

Many parents clubs host Grass Roots programs wherein interested high school students and their parents are invited to a gathering hosted by the local parent club in order for students to meet current cadets...and for prospective candidate parents to meet parents of current or graduated cadets...

    Dinner, night before

Good point 84grad19dad. We made the "last supper" special (Summit Restaurant at the Broadmoor) and returned to the restaurant when he graduated last May. The basics will be getting to know each other 24/7 on I-day. However, for those traveling alone, sounds like a good idea for someone to...

    Hotel recommendations in Colorado Springs

Consider the Hampton Inn or Residence Inn on Federal Way (off the Interquest exit.) Both are relatively new and very close to the North Gate, which is often the only point of access for visitors. Perhaps not the cheapest, but certainly clean, comfortable, quiet, and worth every penny IMHO.

    Parent Clubs

California Capital Region Parents Club (footprint in Central Valley from Yreka to Modesto, Fairfield to Tahoe) will be holding its Pre I-Day Picnic at Orangevale Park (across street from Casa Robles High School) on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from noon to 3:00. Plenty of food and information, and...

    Parent Clubs

To the class of 2019 and their parents, there are approximately 90 Parent Clubs spread throughout the country. Your appointee has or will soon receive a privacy release form. Until the Academy receives it, the Academy can not notify the respective Parent Clubs about an appointee living...

    Donating to the Academy

Can someone please explain the difference between the various organizations seeking donations on behalf of the Academy? There is the AOG, the Endowment, the Rando Fund, the General Fund(?) and even the Denver Airport USO to name a few. I want to donate and support the Academy, specifically...

    I-Day Question

My two cents: Don't miss I-day. Sorry about missing your high school graduation, but high school graduations are over-rated..Ha! Now the USAFA graduation is something else! Parents: Go to I-day and spend the night so you can see the swearing in ceremony. I-Day is a huge experience for your...

    thudgate: air force vs navy

Great time and Thanks! Cris and I had a great time at our 6th Thudgate! Enjoyed seeing Mike and Holly, saying hi again to Thudgatedriverson, drinking a little and eating a lot. This was our first experience of the Air Force family when our son was a C4C at our first Parents Weekend, and the...
