    USAFA is falling apart

Might I add the current cadets are (for the most part) born post 9/11, and they are the first classes born post 9/11. Short of some whose parents were in service, many cadets don’t have a catalyst event inspiring their service. That’s my theory at least.

    USAFA is falling apart

If there’s anything I’ve noticed, it’s a shift in the motivating factors to attend USAFA. There are a lot less people here pursuing a lifelong dream to be a pilot than there was 5 years ago.

    USAFA is falling apart

Everything I just said, the new DO position, the mandate for leather shoes (instead of corfams) are all proposed or soon to be implemented changes. To flieger83’s point, USAFA is indeed a military school, and these are all military things. I think much of this angst will go away once cadets...

    USAFA is falling apart

Maybe your cadet can help with writing skills during the August lockdown, while wearing leather shoes in the squadron DO’s office. When your cadet is done, they can go read the new CS&D, sit through their mandatory risk management training and contemplate what they will do with their Sundays...

    USAFA is falling apart

I think this is an undeveloped thought, but it is interesting to see this post was made right after yesterday’s events. For those of you replying unaware, I would not reply until you have the full context (which I am not privileged to give).

    Appointee Anxiety (c/o '29)

If its any consolation, anything and everything you do in life will ebb and flow and change, to include the Academy. I'll let you in on a secret, the cadets here distraught as they may be are still very proud and fulfilled to be here. This "toxicity" you see is the resistance to change--its the...

    Appointee letter

In his briefing to all civilians, Lt. Gen Bauerfiend has said that there would be an initial RIF of 140 civilians. He did not say where or what positions would be cut--not to them. He only told the ME leads the distribution and then instructed them not to tell their own people. (Yikes)...

    No more majors at USAFA?

The updated message now being given to cadets is that the intense magnification in outrage and public pressure has forced the Supt. to back off some, but not entirely. He remains firm in his intent to reduce civilian faculty numbers and responsibility, but the timelines and severity tied to the...

    No more majors at USAFA?

The Supt. plans to push for same-day approval from the Sec AF select once confirmed. Id keep your eye on the news for that update, I imagine we will get an update soon after.

    No more majors at USAFA?

Whatever the source, the information is strong enough to get teachers to cancel scheduled curriculum and use class time to talk to us about it. This is either the strongest and most potent rumor Ive ever come across, or I fear, it may be the grim reaper knocking on the door.

    No more majors at USAFA?

It is serious enough that senior leadership are now considering it a non-zero, and legitimate probability, prompting the emergency meetings. Again, we can hope the new SecAF tells him no, but only time will tell...

    No more majors at USAFA?

To clarify, the SecAF select has said he would not pursue a reduction in force branch-wide. The Superintendent has said he would like to pursue a reduction in force -- only in DF. He would like the current 60/40 Military/Civilian split to be something closer to 80/20, replacing PhDs with master...
