How are VMI acceptances sent out?

Just an FYI. To us it seemed like VMI's electronic and paper notification processes were not aligned. When our son was accepted, his very nice appointment certificate didn't arrive for a few weeks after his portal changed. On one day he has a whole bunch of other documents added to his portal...

    What exactly is boys state?

Our daughter attended the Girls State version. She loved it. She competed for the State slot amongst other interested girls from our area. Then at State she won Senator and went on to Girls Nation. I cannot speak highly enough of these programs and really encourage you to pursue it. The Legion...

    Va Tech Emerging leaders scholarship

Just following up on this for future searches on this forum--VTCC gave every incoming Cadet the Emerging Leaders scholarship! Just another way our experience with VT and the Corps of Cadets has been wonderful so far!

    Appy for ROTC scholarship first?

Both processes are done in parallel. Know your schools, your ranking of them and what dates they have and submit your applications accordingly. Then also know what date you need to submit the ROTC application by--which takes longer than anticipated to complete all the moving parts. Yes, it will...

    Principal Nominee with TWE

I've read and appreciated all the comments but I think there's still a perspective missing. Somehow somewhere, legislation (I'm guessing) gave MOCs the opportunity to designate a candidate a principal nominee, ie this one candidate was the one the MOC wanted to represent their district that...

    Principal Nominee with TWE

For future candidates, I wanted to share what we learned from our conversation with our DS's academic advisor. For informational purposes, SAT (superscored) was 1300 (640/660) and GPA was 3.4. Separately these are both ok and appear to meet the definition of 'minimum' required of a Principal...

Was it his math score on the SAT?

    Principal Nominee with TWE

We were not the OP but still fell into the category of a TWE-ed principal nominee. Yes in our case confident of the principal nomination as per written confirmation from our MOC's office. Confident in passing CFA and no issues with DoDMERB. Am confident in leadership and extracurriculars...

    Principal Nominee with TWE

Yes. I meant what the standards are for meeting minimal academic requirements are hard to pin down. Is it a 3.5 GPA? A 4.0? Is it a minimum of 1300 on the SAT? A 1400?

    Principal Nominee with TWE

Well at least two ;) The trick is in determining the 3Q. CFA and Medical are easy--it's academic standards which are harder to pin down.

    Principal Nominee with TWE

We did that--followed all published criteria and our DS met them all and even with a principal nom he was TWEed.

    Principal Nominee with TWE

Yes. This. It's a bit shrouded and vague.

    Principal Nominee with TWE

Our DS was also a principal nominee and TWE-ed this morning. He was PPQ too. He's got a great Plan B and has taken the news of no appointment in stride but it was a bit surprising to read the email this morning of the rejection. There was a thread a while back about what exactly are the...

    Va Tech Emerging leaders scholarship

It's $1,500 for each semester this year. It doesn't state if it continues into follow-on years. Mathematically it works. I'll just ask DS to call and ask Fin Aid office. Thanks!

    Va Tech Emerging leaders scholarship

Silly question--was it called an Emerging Leaders Scholarship? DS got something called the Julian Burruss Scholarship. Is this the same thing as ELS?
