THE BLACK BOX - USNA vs NROTC admissions process

That is a good question. The answer is that in order to do this, Congress would have to change the law because it specifically addresses "male persons". There is more about this on the Selective Service Website on the page titled "Women and the Draft". I don't think Congress has made any...

My candidate was also told that the CFA was pass/fail for the most part. DD was also told that it would not make a difference to re-submit just because she could do more pull-ups or whatever it was on the 2nd CFA.

I wish you would not refer to me as "hellbent on getting on a soapbox" and "manifest the chip on shoulder". You do not know me and should not assume that about me. That is just not nice to say. I think you would have more success with discussing things if you left those sort of comments out...

THE BLACK BOX - USNA vs NROTC admissions process

Hi JTGib, awesome news for your DS. I do have compassion for those receiving the TWE - just yesterday, two of the most outstanding students I have ever known were turned down by Ivy League schools after being waitlisted - and my thought was "If they don't want these two, what on earth are they...

Go with some version of stars and stripes? Or some sort of boat theme could work! Good luck!

THE BLACK BOX - USNA vs NROTC admissions process

What we should not do is assume that a woman wants to have children, so we should not increase their numbers in the academies. Also, making the assumption that there will be more vacancies could be incorrect. Perhaps making the military more family friendly will help with retaining the best...

THE BLACK BOX - USNA vs NROTC admissions process

The statement of yours that I took issue with was that FEMALE CANDIDATES ARE ADMITTED WITH LOWER SCORES THAN MALE CANDIDATES. In your own words - "What I question are situations where a candidate is admitted with an inferior résumé, as compared to others who have far better resumes, but get...

THE BLACK BOX - USNA vs NROTC admissions process

My feelings are not hurt. Why would you think you have hurt my feelings? Is it because I am female, so I must be more emotional? Ha. Yes, you belittle females when you treat them as if they are weak baby incubators. My "mentality" is that it is not OKAY to sit idly by and not speak out...

THE BLACK BOX - USNA vs NROTC admissions process

Yes, I read all the articles. Same article also quoted a Marine Corp office "But the solution is not to keep certain specialties or units closed to women, he said, but to make them better prepared and fit to succeed without sacrificing standards. At Parris Island, S.C., one of the Corps' two...

1st study - "data predicts" - enough said. Article also says such injuries could be prevented with better training. 2nd "study" - is an article by the CMR, which has a political position against Obama and his support for increased roles for women in the military. The CMR was founded to oppose...

THE BLACK BOX - USNA vs NROTC admissions process

First - I did not say that you SAID it, I said I "did not believe" you would think that way. Second - military worth is not all about brute strength. Third - please quote the source of any info you are putting out there as fact - for example, what is the source of the assertion that females...

Thank you. She is pretty amazing, as all the other kids I keeping reading about on these forums, even those with TWEs. I especially admire the persistence of those who re-apply. That is true dedication.

I think perhaps timing is important. Ted&Gladys' situation for their DD is similar is some ways to mine. Our Senators received 600 applications and granted 30 interviews. They say they do not double-nominate with each other. My DD had all the paperwork submitted fairly early (about the end...
