Any University of Portland or Texas Tech AFROTC Cadets out there?

I’d have to agree...don’t judge UP based on the surrounding city. DS was on an AFROTC scholarship (graduated with no debt) and loved the smaller school atmosphere. He was able to participate in so many more activities than he could have if he had gone to a bigger school (AFROTC, sports...

Hernia affect on AFROTC scholarship activation???

Sorry to hear about your DS’s injury. I hope everything turns out well for him. As a parent, this has got to be a troubling time for you.

    AFROTC Type 2 scholarship benefits

Agreed...DS was able to turn his type 7 scholarship into a type 2 at UP. He got free r&b for 5 years (EE major) and merit scholarship covered 50% tuition freshman year so we figure we only had to pick up one semester of about $250,000 bill. UP AFROTC has won Right of Line award twice in less...

    Is Scholarship taxable income

I knew I’d get a good answer - didn’t expect it so quick! Thanks, very thorough. I think you cleared it up for me...and anyone one else out there who might have the same question.

    Is Scholarship taxable income

I just found out DH has been claiming entire AFROTC scholarship plus school reimbursement for remaining tuition and r&b as income for taxes for the last 4 years. I have read many posts thru the years, and I thought only r&b is taxable. The school sends a form 1098-T which reports the entire...

RIP Fire Controlman First Class Gary Rehm Jr., USS Fitzgerald Hero

As tragic and heart wrenching (and heroic) as this incident is, it should be a reality check for every young cadet-hopeful. This site is a valuable resource for advice and direction for SA and ROTC applicants. Most are concerned with increasing their chances for a scholarship or looking for a...

DS is now a 2nd Lt in USAF

Pima For the past 5 years, I always felt like the advice you gave was always directed at me (on spot and very helpful) . Now that DS has commissioned, and like OP's DS will be heading out to his base in a few weeks I think this post is again, very helpful as we head into the next phase. Thanks...

    Commissioning Day!!

DS commissioned last weekend. It was very special! Several cadets were sworn in by family members and one cadet even had his wife do the honors. Enjoy the day!

    First year is over already!

5 years have passed in a blink. Seems like only yesterday DS was visiting potential campuses. I think I'm looking forward to Commissioning Ceremony more than Commencements! Sad...we won't have a good excuse to head to the west coast anymore.

    AFROTC May Commissioning

Hmmm....DS graduates in about 2 weeks. We have lots of family coming from out of state to see (what we thought) him get sworn in and be there for the ceremony. This is very disappointing. But on top of that, does he really have to go back to his detachment weeks after moving back home? I hope...

    AFROTC Scholarship Payment

Can anyone confirm whether stipends should be paid for approved 5th year (type 2 scholarship)? DS received stipends fall semester but has not received any payments this semester. Scholarship has been paid to school.

    ROTC rankings

If you're interested in finding unit rankings, AFROTC has annual 'Right of Line' award that identifies the 'best' ROTC unit (s). It recognizes 3 winners based on small, medium and large unit size.
