    Question

No it does not. My son did the same thing during high school. He was going be a Marine (something he always wanted to be) and worked out with them his Junior and Senior years. They actually encouraged him to apply to the Naval Academy. After attending NASS, he applied and got accepted into...

How much does this hurt my chances?

My son also got in a fight and was suspended 5 day from school and was sited by P.D. (zero tolarence school). Today he is at NAPS. So don't worry about it, BUT DO NOT TRY TO HIDE IT. We all make mistakes, just learn not to make the some ones. GOOD LUCK

    Enlist and then to USNA?

DO NOT ENLIST. Work out with local navy recruiter. Let them know that your # 1 goal is to get into the Academy. Attended Summer Seminar if you can. Enjoy high school, but keep working towards you goal. And remember most incoming Midshipmen/plebes did not enlist before arriving at the...

Tell your school that you would like pick up an official transcript. It should say "OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT" and be in a sealed envelope when you pick it up. DO NOT OPEN IT. send it in another envelope when requested.

    JROTC

They will all look good to the the USNA. So take the classes that interest YOU, and do well in it. READ the "new FAQ's" they will save you a lot of stress and frustration.

    ACt Writing

Must agree with Shellz. Start working on your essay now and have someone you trust check the final product for errors before you send it in. Also talk to the people that you want to write recommendation for you NOW, so they have a lot of time to work on it. Lastly be prepared to explain what...

    ACt Writing

If you are going to NASS a lot will be explained there. No need to rush. The only advice I would give you is to working on the teachers recommendation NOW (it took my sons english teacher did not send her rec. until almost the last day). Enjoy NASS and work out everyday.

    GPA vs. ACT?

I would say ACT score. My son had high ACT scores butt sufferd a "brain  fart" his sophmore year and he might have a 3.0 when he he graduates this year, but he can get A's in classes he is taking at the local Community College. Also, IMO, GPA can be "padded" (easy vs rigorous classes)...
