Any letters received for Marine Option?

We were in this situation last spring, and know how difficult the wait is. My son's application was reviewed by the February 2009 board. In late March, I contacted the captain in charge of the NROTC unit at the school where he'd already been accepted, to find out if he had any inside...

    NROTC - Marine Option

In 2009 my son was reviewed by the February board and notified in late March by phone of his award. He didn't get the paperwork until early April and the online status changed somewhere between those two dates.

Any letters received for Marine Option?

My son received his NROTC/Marine option scholarship last year. He didn't apply until December because his first choice was USNA. His application was reviewed in February and he was notified (by phone) of his award by the captain of the local recruiting station in late March. The paperwork...

    NROTC App Status Question

My son went through the process last year and, from my recollection, the Marine option board does not meet as often - I think they convene three times. I know the last meeting is in February and I think the one before that is in November. Prior to that, I don't know. My son's application was...

ROTC’s ranks surge with new recruits

Some of the comments were quite negative, as was to be expected. I started to craft a reply and realized I probably should wait 24 hours :-)

    Choice of School?

Our son was instructed to put 5 schools (in ranked order of preference) from the NROTC approved list on the application form for the scholarship. They had to be schools he had a good shot at getting into. When his scholarship was awarded, it was to his first choice school...where, unfortunately...

    navy-marines vice-versa

I agree with kgrmom - if you really think you want Marines, go for it from the start. It is true that there are fewer Marine option scholarships awarded than Navy ones - I don't have the exact numbers but I was told by the NROTC office in Pensacola that there are thousands available for Navy and...

    Room and Board

College of the Holy Cross is room only, no board. RPI is average room and board, which works out to nearly 100% for a double room, platinum (highest level) meal plan.

    ROTC and a military career

Just A Mom, I do not see a sticky thread that spells out what those acronyms mean. Can you please explain? Thank you.

    Marine Option NROTC

If by tiers you mean 4-, 3-, and 2-year scholarships, the answer is yes. My son received a 4-year Marine option scholarship this year but I don't recall it being based on what he plans to study in college. Marine options scholarships are very competitive. I've heard anecdotally that for...
