Thanks alot everyone. More advice then I thought I would get.
In the end, I can't turn down the academy experience and the opportunities it offers. Even if it's not recommended I'm going to reapply to navy. If they decline me so be it. You can't go wrong with any academy IMO.
Thanks again.
Yes I have both in hand. Sorry for not being more specific. And navy is what I really want. I've heard that switching academies isn't a good idea but reliable sources(my Blue and Gold officer) have told me otherwise as well.
If someone could confirm that it would be appreciated.
As far...
I can't decide between the USCGA and taking a NROTC marine option scholarship to the average state U. (Not sure what college yet but rejected from cornell). I know the first thing I will hear is "do you wanna be a marine or a coastie?" I'm honestly not sure. Initially I wanted to go to USNA and...
Update
First off. Thanks to everyone for their input. A lot of great advice and info was shared.
Secondly, I am now cleared for the USNA. The DOD will accept remedial medical exams done by private doctors. I went and took some color blind tests. One of which was the FALANT which I failed...
Does anyone know what a passing score is on the Ishihara PIP colorblind test for the USCGA?
I got 11/14. As of right now I'm qualified for USAFA and pending waiver submission for USNA. I'm starting my USGCA application now so I'm curious to see if I will be medically qualified for the coast...
I wouldn't be surprised if that was true. Policy has apparently changed this year however on certain things so its hard to say. Flying isn't really my dream though(not saying I would turn down the opportunity if my first choice doesn't pan out). But If I were given the opportunity I would want...
I have an appointment to get tested by the FAA for my deficiency( it ended up being $120 and is four tests including the FALANT lantern). I also contacted USNA. They told me that if I were to be offered an appointment I woul then be put through a waiver process. I have the appointment anyway...
I live in south New Jersey. I am a pretty competitive candidate but they aren't banging down my door to get me in (SAT 1320/1600, 3.9 GPA, and lots of ECs . I would drive a few hours and pay 250 if I really had to (if a pass would still grant me a waiver). Btw, thank you all for the info
Bummer
That is some disappointing info. So basically what I should try and do is get DODMERB to let me take the Farnsworth test somewhere? Or possibly find another doctor with a lantern to administer the test? (Which seems impossible).
Are those really my only options?
I'll definitely be...
I received a letter from DODMERB today. Unfortunately I am not qualified to attend the USNA due to a color deficiency(USNA is by far my first choice). However, I am qualified to attend the USAFA. I have a few questions. What are my chances to get a waiver? Also, I believe that if I took the...
