    rolling admissions/LOA

My son received his USMA LOA in Aug and offer of appointment in Oct. Also had LOA from USNA and offers from Stanford, Michigan, Penn St. I suspect the LOAs and early appointment offers will likely continue in small numbers for blue chip athletes and highly qualified URM candidates.

    Boots for Beast and Garrison

As an Infantry Officer with a few thousand miles carrying 80 lbs packs, I disagree. But perhaps you have a different perspective from the air. I suggest a high quality boot, with excellent soles. Yes, they must fit properly, but quality does matter.

    NAPS

Easiest Day? Stretch - nothing wrong with YOUR decision, it sounds as though you have thought it through and know your goals. As far as plan B, C...Z, don't sweat it. I have deployed with many SEALs and the guys who are successful in BUDS never thought about a "Plan B" while they were going...

    Nomination preference for athletes

Start by reading Post #1 and work you way through this thread, I read whining throughout, but to be fair my threshold for whining is pretty low - I'm a Marine Infantry Officer. The whining and sarcasm continues in the thread, getting really nice in Post #4 #6 and on down the line. There are...

    Nomination preference for athletes

The cost issue of all the Service Academies' Div I athletics programs is a red herring. SAs and the military establishment is not in the business of making money. They spend $$ to produce military officers and future leaders and win wars. Bottom line, despite the musings and complaints of a...

    Candidate Portal Question

I believe the "08" indicates the SUP's 8th nomination for the class. The SUP is authorized by law to have 100 nominations/appointees at any given time. So approximately 25 per year. These are typically Blue Chip recruits who are likely receiving offers from other Service Academies or other...

DS has LOA and now NOM!!!!!

FWIW - my son received his Nom notification via multiple sources o/a Oct 28. The BFE came 10 days later. Plan B still in place in the event of injury, etc. He notified other coaches once the BFE was received/signed: told USNA, Stanford, Michigan of his choice to attend USMA. This was out...

Will my high class rank carry my fairly low SAT scores?

I would suggest that your grades and class rank may, in fact, be enough to overcome your SAT scores. Your location will be key, do you live in highly competitive area or one that is not that competitive? You may be a strong candidate in some parts of the country. Or you may have a Presidential...

    VP Nomination

A Ph.D. is not required. LOA + VP Nom = Appointment. When I read Whistle Pig's sarcastic and insulting posts regarding USNA's admissions policy/program, I only think of Teddy Roosevelt's famous quote: "It is not the critic who counts,..." and realize he has yet to offer any actual military...

    2017 recruited lacrosse player questions

Evidence suggests there is not a "one size fits all" policy regarding medical waivers. A shoulder dislocation may be different for each individual. The files and Doctor or Surgeon reports will be reviewed by DODMERB, but the wavier granted or denied by the Superintendant. Moreover, many...

    Candidates REapplying

Understood, I was a bit confused with your abbreviations as the English portion has a max score of 36 and, as you know, there is a critical reading portion with the same max score. How about your CFA? 90th percentile or higher on every section except the silly basketball throw? A really...

    Candidates REapplying

I'm not trying to be negative or burst your bubble, but if the score you depicted for ACT English is actually an eleven (11) and not a typo, then I don't see anyway you will be competitive. Please don't take this comment as sarcastic, but that is a huge disparity between ACT Math/Reading and...

    LOA Received Today!!!

Since my post is quoted and now commented upon, I feel the need to respond and provide a bit of context. Sure, there are examples of recruited athletes that don't graduate. As there are examples of 750/750 SAT and top 2% of HS class cadets who can't take the stress of military training...
