    Plebe Venting

Just keep going. You're almost done with Plebe year and the summer will be a nice change. You will find your people. It takes a while for many. You're almost 2/3 done with USNA. Good stuff ahead!

    2028 State Nominations Thread

There will still be 5 'charges' from each Senator and Representative. Lower populated states have fewer representatives so that can affect numbers of Mids. But it can be a good thing. It could be easier to get a nomination.

Question re: recognition at high school graduation

At my MidSib's graduation, there were two graduates enlisting in the Air Force and they wore a special sash for that. My Mid (High School class of 2020) didn't have a graduation but a cord from an SA would've been lost with his 5 others. For that reason, he decided to not even ask about...

    Medical power of attorney

We just had POA and HIPAA release made for our Firstie and Midsib. We want to be able to speak to Doctors in case of emergency and make financial decisions when our MID is deployed.

    Am I a competitive candidate?

You should take the SAT again (or maybe the ACT) and try to improve. Also, make sure you have leadership and activities for this year. It wouldn't hurt to take some Plebe level courses at your local community college.

    2024 musings

There will be lots of pictures taken and posted by the Mids themselves. It's fun to see them all wearing their new community t-shirts.

Any idea what happens if there is a lapse in appropriations??

I was essential and worked through many government shut downs. I don't miss the BS of everything depending on Congress to get it's act together. Usually, it ends quickly. The one time I would've been furloughed for a day, it ended before then. The SAs are different of course but it's still a...

    DODMERB DQs?

My Mid used a ton of acne meds and finally Accutane. He had to end it early to go to the Academy. Fortunately, the acne never came back. I think he needed a waiver but it was quick and easy. I had to go to the pharmacy and get a printout of every med he had taken since his 12th bday...

    Waiver Chance??

There's probably nothing you can do. If they ask for additional information, provide it. Try not to freak out. Many waivers are issued every year.

    Feedback on Personal Statement:

You don't need to tell USNA that you need to be among the best candidates. They already know that. The swim story is hard to follow and didn't really convey the seriousness of the situation. Walk away from it for a while and try again.

    Advice for Parents?

Tell her to join the USNA Facebook groups. USNA Plebe/Youngster Parents, BLB USNA 2027 Parents (Blind leading Blind), USNA MID MOMS!! (AND DADS!). She'll find more, there are tons! They are great resources for what's happening and a great place to ask questions.

How well will an engineering degree from the academy prepare me for an engineering job?

You will not be assigned an engineering job right out of the Academy. You should check out the USNA website to see the career opportunities. A degree from USNA will be from the top public school in the country. It will stand up against any other school. Many employers will hire SA grads...
