My son received a spot too but he got a summer engineering internship after the initial rejection and will probably turn the EA down since his commander told him it was optional that he accept.

I believe that choosing the rated option, at least this year, helped quite a bit.

My son was in a similar position and he chose AFROTC because he wanted a more normal college experience. He ultimately did not get selected for Field Training (neither did most of his detachment) but he will be able to finish his degree without the scholarship. He does not regret choosing ROTC...

Congrats!!! 3 out of 10 cadets were selected at my son's det....it was a bloodbath. He has a great Plan B and doesn't need the scholarship to finish school so he is in a good situation. I feel for the kids who aren't though :(

From my understanding, if your cadet was invited to become an AS500, they would need to repeat their AS200 year. I do not believe they are guaranteed a field training slot in next years class, they would be competing against the other AS200's. Essentially being an AS500 extends their college...

Unfortunately he was not selected but although disappointed he knows it was a brutal cycle.

My son was just told that the EA's will be released sometime....no date given. At this rate the only cadets who will be going to FT are the Juniors who were deferred last year due to COVID...lol.

My son said he is expecting to hear on Monday the results for field training. He also heard the selection rate was low. Good luck to them all!

My son attends Cornell and agree that it is a beautiful campus, although not near a metropolitan area which is not necessarily a bad thing, especially with all that is going on right now. The academics are rigorous and the campus is military friendly. He is happy with the school and detachment...

It does not hurt your chances of a scholarship. Stating a technical major on your application will help your chances though.

Cornell is re-opening for in person classes with a few classes still being taught online. Dorms will open but be modified for no more than double occupancy. Social distancing, masks, and daily health checks will be required.

You can complete the app and the entire ROTC process without a Selective Service number if you are under 18.
