Is it possible to switch an NROTC 4 year scholarship to Marine Option?

My DS went with a group of 4 for his OCS. For various reasons, not all of them physical, he was the only one to graduate. Two retried the next summer. Mental attitude is of a major importance. Being a Marine is something you must really want or chances are you might not make it through OCS...

Academic Probation Period – College Program

I asked my son who commissioned this past spring. He did his freshman year in AFROTC then switched to NROTC-MO and he states he has never heard anything about a probationary period. Maybe the Navy side of things is different, though.

    ADD

I have met parents who have had their children put on meds for ADD just because the kids weren't getting straight A's. One was the school social worker. At least that was the reason she gave for having both of her children on meds for this. In 6th grade, my DS's teacher decided, the last...

Academic Probation Period – College Program

My son went through NROTC but your question does not ring a bell.

    NROTC Eyesight

I would suggest getting at least one more exam and sending that info in. Even doctors can make mistakes. My DS ran into issues after a military exam said he had an umbilical hernia. I took him to a specialist to get the surgey and the doc looked at us like we were crazy. He did not have a...

    Flat feet?

No they do not. Unless, from what I read, special shoes or devices are needed. My DS's feet are about as flat as they come and he just commissioned as a 2nd LT in the USMC. He has no problems with all the rucking they do carrying heavy packs.

Best boots / other uniform questions

My DS will be commissioning in a couple of month, Marine Corps. His dress blues and other fancy items he needs will cost about $1100, according to a site I found. He led me to believe that the cost of this will be on us. Oh, not to mention the $500 sword. LOL

    Need Advice-hernia

Hernias, left untreated, can run into complications or get bigger. Just my guess, but I am thinking they would want it fixed. My DS had been told by a military doc that he got a hernia while on a summer program (OCS). He is due to commission at the end of April. They would not let him...

    TBS- The Basic School

LOL. Great post, Capt MJ. Yes, it is time for Mom to mind her own business and let her son be the great man he has grown to become. Every day can be a learning experience if we take it as such. Even though he is a foot taller than me and 100 pounds heavier, I can't stop wanting to protect...

    Questions regarding marijuana experimentation

My DS mentioned his experimentation on his NROTC app. That has never been an issue for him and he will be commissioning in a couple months. As mentioned above, consistency is the key. Honesty is another key. I do not see why you would need to mention secondhand smoke. The application does...

    NROTC Scholarship Question

Universities each have their own process for how they deal with scholarship winners. NROTC has paid for my DS's tuition and related costs such as lab fees. They pay a book stipend directly to the MIDN. His university withdrew his college based merit scholarship because of his ROTC scholarship...

    TBS- The Basic School

A few of the members here will have DS/DD graduating TBS very soon. Congratulations to you and your children! The long journey is being completed for them and a new one is beginning. How very proud you all must be! My DS is expecting to head that way in September. I am planning ahead and...

    Cadet Stipend

My DS was paid for NROTC OCS this past summer. I believe since he did recieve funds. If this is taxable, why did he not receive a W-2? He hasn't done his taxes yet.

    Mom brag

Congratulations to your son! I totally understand about the pins and needles. I still worry and my DS will be commissioning in less than 3 months. That almost got held up by a hernia-that-was-not-hernia, which could have rendered him "unfit for duty" until it was repaired and healed. He no...
