Would it be okay to drop a college class if you are an accepted candidate as long as it wouldn't negatively affect your GPA and would just be a W on your transcript?

This is not true at all I know very competent and high achieving individuals in my Army ROTC battalion who do not get active duty

at the school i am at i can drop a class and get a W grade with no impact 3 weeks before the last day of classes.
