    Tuxedo Needed for USNA?

Depending on where you live, your local parents' group may participate in an annual Joint Service Academies Military Ball. Our area Ball gave my husband 4 opportunities to wear his tux. Although some men wore suits to the Ball, the vast majority at our Ball did wear a tux. My husband already...

    Wisdom Teeth

And, as others have stated, although MOST will eventually need to have them removed, not ALL will. That is even true of pilots. My DS - currently in pilot training - still has his. (I still have mine too - but I'm not a pilot.) Our home dentist didn't recommend removal of them and neither...

    Playing football at the academy

Ace Mom - I'm sure things are different every year, but I can give you my son's experience (Class of 2015) in "walking on" to the Academy football team. My son was a recruited athlete for a different sport. But, he wanted to try to play football as well (different season than his other sport)...

    Questions about 2015 Birthday Ball

Typically there is no official "weekend off" for the Birthday Ball. However, the cadet can request a weekend pass from their AOC and, at least when my DS was a 4 degree, everyone he knew who asked was granted a pass. But, they do have to fill out the paperwork and request the weekend off.

    Taxes/SA Dependents

[Does anyone know if USAFA provides info like what is provided in the USMA links? Some good info and I'd love to have something like this to take to our tax advisor. Yes, USAFA provides similar information. I haven't looked at in in some time, but I think it is in the parent handbook or...

    Vision and Air Force

PQ As with aggie83, my son (graduating May 2015) is also slightly nearsighted - not significant enough to qualify for PRK or lasik. He is also pilot qualified and has received a pilot slot.

Importance of varsity sports for future

IC I agree - take it one step at a time. If your cadet wants to give an IC sport a try, I say go for it. He/she can evaluate it and decide if it will be worth it once there. If there's real interest by the cadet, it wouldn't be a bad idea for the high school coach to let the academy...

    Class of 2015 Non-rated AFSCs

CRO No - I haven't heard when he expects to know. I want to say I heard that it could be as late as March, but I wouldn't swear to that. I do know that he tested once already and didn't pass one part, but he has time to take the tests again. I believe if he had passed everything the first...

    Class of 2015 Non-rated AFSCs

CRO I think some are still waiting to hear on CRO. We have one friend who currently has a pilot slot, but is waiting to hear about his real "first choice" of CRO.

Condos/Housing in Colorado Springs or area

buying a home in Colorado Springs The house we rented for our first visit to Colorado Springs (the week leading up to I-day) was owned by a retired professor. They live in the house most of the year and rent it out to others during the "popular" visit times. Of course, some of those times...

    Sports Advice

Track As mentioned by meant2be, you can compete in some track meets as "unattached". Both of my sons ran in track meets "unattached" one year. They went to a school with a track team, but didn't run track for the school because they were playing baseball and the seasons conflicted. Most of...

New Appointee Luncheon - Southeast Texas/Greater Houston area

To any 2018 appointees in the Southeast Texas area (which includes, but is not limited to, the greater Houston area). Our area parents' association is having a "Hail and Farewell" luncheon/meeting recognizing the new appointees and honoring the graduating seniors on May 4. We would love for all...

New Appointee Luncheon for Southeast Texas (which includes the greater Houston area)

New Appointee Luncheon I should have specified that the luncheon referenced above is for Air Force Academy appointees. But, if your DD/DS is an appointee for another academy - or in a different area - I imagine lots of area clubs are having similar events. So, check out your local parents'...

New Appointee Luncheon for Southeast Texas (which includes the greater Houston area)

To any 2018 parents in the Southeast Texas area (which includes, but is not limtied to, the greater Houston area): Our local parents group has had difficulty getting names of all our area appointees from the Academy. So, if you have not yet heard from us, we are having a "Hail and Farewell"...
