    Dodmerb- high blood pressure

From now on, request a manual reading instead of the machine. When my DS had his DoDMerb exam, he requested a manual BP and it was normal. His pediatrician had discovered a couple years earlier that every time he took his BP with a machine it was elevated. There are studies which show that cuff...

    Appointed Stats?

TX District 24. I should also say that in our district you can only get one nom. He received a nom to USNA since he listed it as his first choice. His Westpoint rep told him if he had a nomination to USMA, he would have been offered an appointment. No bitterness here! His backup plan has been...

I love your post. Nothing better than watching our kids find their way. Best of luck to both of your kiddos.

Things don't always work out the way you planned

Bloom where you're planted has been my motto for 25 years. We've moved six times and my kids have heard me preach this a million times. When our son called to tell us he didn't want to reapply, his quote was "I've decided to bloom where I'm planted."

Things don't always work out the way you planned

He submitted his USNA application in August and went to his Candidate Weekend visit in Sept. He completed the Westpoint/Air Force applications in Sept. He heard back very quick that he was 3Q-no waiver needed. He applied for nominations from all sources. Once he received a nomination from one...

Things don't always work out the way you planned

This time last year, my son had completed his applications to all three service academies. He was like most of the applicants: an A student with numerous AP and honors courses, lettered in two varsity sports, lead in the school musical, president of the largest service club on campus, treasurer...

    Self Prep?

I don't know for 2016-2017 but for 2017-2018 there were 15 self preps for West Point and 7 have appointments. Col. Bowen said he expects another self prep appointment this week. He said the main reason the other self preps didn't get an appointment was due to low ACT/SAT scores. He said on...

    Self Prep?

I have no idea whether self prep is good or bad, but here are the stats from MMI. https://marionmilitary.edu/sap-appointment-history/ For the 2016-2017 school year, twenty-two self prep students received appointments at MMI.

    I made a mistake

@airforce89 I applaud you for realizing your mistake and taking ownership. It's not my place (or anyone else's for that matter) to judge you. We all make mistakes and deserve the right to learn and grow from those mistakes. While I don't agree with the use of drugs, I know plenty of people who...

    Senior Year Grades

My DS emailed his Admissions Counselor and asked if he could have his first semester senior grades sent to the Academy. His counselor emailed back and said, "we will request your grades if we want/need them."

USNA Nomination Received, but no USAFA

In the Dallas area, the MOC's do coordinate with the Senators. My DS received an email from our MOC congratulating him for his Senatorial nom. The email also stated that the MOC doesn't double nominate unless a candidate didn't get a nomination for his/her first choice. Since DS got his first...

The USNA Slang Is Changing - Feeling Old

All of the high school students at CVW were called DRAGs by the midshipmen. Funny, how things change! I guess we all become a "when I was a ____" at some point!

Finished app 2 months ago but it has not yet gone in front of the review board.

My DS completed his application the first of Oct. and his portal still reads "complete pending review." I'm so glad to have this forum to know that it's completely normal!
