Totally different from what DS received. Impressive that one senator gave your DS nominations to all 3 academies. For here that's pretty unheard of. I'm thinking that some cutting and pasting didn't happen correctly. It seems odd that he'd rank for one opening at USNA, but do competitive for...
For everyone who is so wrapped up on nominations, please go back and read the letters that you received from Senators/MOCs. Sen Schatz used the competitive method of nomination and blatantly states that USNA will make appointments from the list. Nothing about primary/principle or whatever. Rep...
Good luck with that! I agree that DDs can be a bit more of a challenge. I'm guessing your DD is similar to mine who was/is a leader in everything and also rowed for a Div I school. She started becoming a normal person between 20-21, but I have yet to hear an apology. She does come to me for...
Thanks for the tips! I got a quick reply from Doug too and sent him a pic of the appointment certificate. Any other sites that are good to look for info on?
As a parent who had DD recruited by many Div I schools and the only Div III school she considered attending was MIT, I respectfully say that perhaps you don't understand college athletics and possibly the athletic aspects of the military. The SAs have produced several Olympian caliber athletes...
There's a letter included with the BFE that also has those numbers. It'd be nice to know what they represent. With how frequently this thread gets posted to only a moderator may see this question and be able to answer it.
Glad to hear no TWEs for you! Congrats on the USAFA! I saw another HI boy got an USAFA appointment too so great job. We haven't heard from USAFA, but DS really wanted USNA anyway. If anything your son can go to USAFA and then request a cross-commission. And the flights home will be easier!
It doesn't make sense to me that someone would need a nomination to go to NAPS or Foundation because you definitely need to go thru the nomination process again when you are in either program to get your appointment to USNA.
Thanks! I understand the rowing schedule as they do head/foot races in the fall and then the regular season in the spring. I think it's the only sport that somehow skirts around the NCAA rules. Mine will be a lightweight.
Is your son at USNA now or are you talking high school sports? We wondered if anyone does 2 varsity sports at USNA? DD is Div 1 Rower in Boston and her coach wouldn't allow it.
DS is about to get 5 Varsity letters for HS this year (water polo, kayaking, canoe paddling, track, and volleyball)...
I agree with many of HornetGuy's posts but I wanted to add a few comments. The academies' purpose is to make military officers. What they learn there is the foundation of their military career. I have worked at many military commands. No one is allowed to discuss religion, sexual orientation...
You should start a new thread with helpful tips like that! My youngest is currently selling GS cookies. Wonder if I should buy more and bring them to PPW? Are thin mints the best or do you also send others? We send Hawaiian candies/chocolates to our oldest at Northeastern every once in a while...
For those who already have the BFE (or got it years ago) how did you mail back the signed paperwork and birth certificate? Did you just use the enclosed postage paid envelope? We only have 1 copy of DS's birth certificate and plan on enclosing the return SASE so when we'd get it back we know...
At my son's school AP Calc BC is just a semester course. IMO you've proved yourself in math so perhaps you should fill some time with a computer class. You are trying to prep yourself for the plebe academics: http://www.usna.edu/Academics/Majors-and-Courses/Course-Requirements.php. If your...
