    IC athletes weigh in

Former IC athlete here and current coach of many former higher school players playing on D1 to D3 schools. In short- it really depends on the sport and specific coach. I found USAFA very supportive in general - great trainer/physical therapy/weightlifting support to the team. That said, the...

Pre-med experience, med school related thoughts and experience wanted.

Try this thread and look for some past posts from hornetguy - class of 2010 who went through the process of applying but ended up doing grad school (RAND PhD I believe) instead https://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/med-doctor.38245/#post-375884 In short: It's possible and...

    Absence Limit

I probably had upwards of 50 absences - not all full days, but many of them I enrolled in study hall and never went - needing that time to do physical therapy to rehab an injury for tennis. In later years, I missed almost every other Friday, some Mondays and a couple full weeks here and there...

    Too Late! (Rant)

Just want to add another "vote" for taking the ACT anyway if you can afford the late fee. It's worth it to take it to get some practice, and so you have a baseline ACT score. You might be better at the SAT but you'd need to take both to know. And you said you don't have time to study, but based...

    Golden Handshake USNA

What area are you looking for a job in? What's your STEM MS degree in? There are definitely lots of federal jobs (Air Force civilian are the one's I'm most familiar with) that are looking for bright young people to step in. The trick is having the right STEM background, as most of those jobs...

USAF Acquisitions 63A - Career Question

Yes - same question - what base? And if he had gone to AFIT, what would he have gotten his degree in? Also - what was his undergrad? I am a 61D - very similar career field, except I only do extremely technical work. I work with a lot of 63s though and can even fill 63 billets. Many 61s reclass...

Should I listen to my gut feeling or logic? (deciding to reapply to USAFA)

This thread has a recurring question that I see all the time on this forum that I want to present a different view point on. Yes - everyone needs to understand that going to USAFA means serving, but as a reality check: that is NOT the primary motivation of all, or I'd venture to say even a...

    Chances of admission?

Not necessarily true. There is an upper limit on how many cadets can go to medical school, but you have to get recommended by USAFA to even apply, and that in itself takes out a good chunk of the applicant pool. If your goal is to be a pilot- then yes, USAFA gives you the best shot. But if your...

What are my chances of getting into USAFA?

I read your other post on the DODMERB forum, but decided this response fit better here, as I think this question is a common one and I wanted to provide a more general take than just whether you could be medically qualified or not. While it is technically possible you could get waivers for...

    Acceptance Day Parade

Then there was that time we did a noon meal parade...in 95 degree weather....in service dress. I think the total was 97? Something like that. Probably something to do with standing in the blazing sun in what is essentially a sauna suit

Early Graduation and it's Potential Effects on Admissions

My STRONG recommendation for you is to stay the 4 years in high school. The two main reasons are 1. Study skills: if you are as smart as you claim to be, you likely haven't struggled for much academically ever. There will be a point where you do struggle, and unless you have pushed yourself...

    Potential Asthma DQ

I had an inhaler and actively used it even while at the Academy. We could never quite figure out what my breathing issues actually were, but the inhaler seemed to help. That said, it was always a gray area in my medical record because no doctor concluded I actually had asthma, just that it...

    Looking for a watch

My go to dumb watch for when I'm moving in and out of classified spaces a lot is a $15 Armitron women's watch. It works well, is cheap so when I inevitably lose it or break it, I just buy another and don't worry about it, and it's not bulky at all. Armitron Sport Women's 45/7012 Digital...

    Summer Research / Internship

Summer after Junior year, many STEM cadets do summer internships, but they are generally with DoD organizations (AFRL, AFIT, etc). They also usually take 3-6 weeks, with the longer ones only being an option if you give up leave. That has been changing a bit and on rare occasions, it's possible...

    Female Pilots

I am pretty sure I know the officer flying that plane! My AOC at USAFA was the first woman to fly (or maybe command? not certain) an AC-130. Timing seems about right for that. She was awesome, retired pretty recently as an O-6.
