Denied From SLE, Is This The End?

There are limited slots for SLE, so it has little to no bearing on you gaining an appointment. A good alternative to it is Boys State. Regardless, I agree with several other posters - stay focused on having as strong an Admissions (and Nominations) packet(s) as possible regardless of the SLE...

    CFA Are these passing scores?

While there are no minimums published, I tell my candidates to target the average scores as minimums and also focus on great form for the pullups and pushups. You look fine with everything except those 2 scores, so it's up to you as to either submit or work hard for 2 weeks to improve and...

    Food at WP

USMA has lots of food choices - much more than back in the early '80s. I recall pickier people turning up their noses b/c Mom was a super cook back home, but not one of those picky eaters ever starved! Plus it made things easier for a billy goat like me!

Likelihood of appointment to SA after waiver granted?

It's a very positive sign. Admissions only has a finite number of waiver requests available, so they will use them for stronger candidates. Once the waiver is granted, you're back in the mix for Admissions reviews (assuming everything else on your file is a-okay). Agree w/earlier comments -...

    CFA Administrator Gifts?

When I administer a CFA, I tell the candidate the only thanks I want is 10 extra pushups, etc! 😀 Good for you to think of showing appreciation!

    CFA Pass or Fail??

Agree with the fact that the BB throw is the area you might need to retake. I had this occur last year with a candidate. My advice to him was to find a “thrower” (baseball player, QB buddy get access to a gym (outdoors is fine also) and go play catch. He spent a couple of weeks doing that and...

How dumb of an idea is it to join the Nat Guard/ Navy Reserve just to get into the academy easier?

While that’s certainly an option, i would ask myself if that’s truly my passion and weigh that against using the same amount of time and effort spent towards whatever areas you need to overcome/improve.

Only have an ROTC nom from college this year...could I still get in?

Always apply for all noms available. (No ride? Find one...if there’s a will, there’s a way). I regularly find applicants who haven’t applied for all possible nominations when doing interviews. Best of luck - and Beat WVA!

    Class Grade Problem

My DS got a C, then D in senior year (Calculus). He did a prep year, got strong grades and turned the negative into a positive and is now a plebe at USNA- similar to what @StPaulDad says above.

    How Competitive am I?

You have a competitive profile, so do a great job in the interview and your SAT re-take. Agree with the comment about CFA looks good, but shuttle and mile run would be good to improve (and make sure those pullups and pushups are good form-wise!). Good leadership and sports certainly help you...

    Thanksgiving Leave Granted?

I know there's some griping about the athletes and supposed special treatment, but those folks put in a ton of extra hours and work in representing their schools. No complaints here - let's all cheer them on! My plebe son at USNA played HS football and totally gets how much work and dedication...
