    Blue and Gold Officer Interview

A fine line between being the squeaky wheel and a pest. A gentle reminder or calling with another question to get back in the BGO's mind is appropriate. They are busy people and sometimes things may get "forgotten".

Not applying to other SA's--Frowned upon come nomination time?

If he knows what he wants, and doesn't want, and can articulate his reasoning, then that is the path he should take.

    NROTC Board Dates

It is not too late, but the longer the wait the fewer "looks" your son will have. The long pole in the tent is typically those pieces he will not have much control over - recommendations, interview, etc. There is a line between being the squeaky wheel and a pest. In addition to the two...

    College Class Rings

Definitely whatever your DS wants to do. As mentioned above, most don't wear rings day-to-day in the field/on ship/aboard aircraft due to safety concerns and fear of loss. I wear my SA ring much more since retired now that I sit at a desk.

AROTC VS. NROTC with ISR. What are the differences?

It is best to have as many available options as possible in case something happens. Prioritize the options. Most of the application windows for MoC nominations for my DS close in November, so you may not hear anything yet. However, if your DS's preference is AROTC over NROTC and he has already...

Who administered your DS/DD fitness tests?

DS's test for USNA was administrated at NASS; the NROTC test by his volleyball coach. Unless the candidate "maxes" out, the test is really just a pass/fail and to give the candidate an idea of where they are at physically and how much they need to prepare.

    USNA vs. NROTC

It comes down to what you think will fit you best: structure, goals, type of campus, location, size, academics, extra-curriculars, etc. DS's initial plan was to attend USNA as "Plan A" and NROTC as "Plan B". After a week of NASS, those plans reversed. DS decided he values his free time and...

    Blue and Gold Officer Interview

Three weeks may seem like a long time, but as mentioned above, there are a lot of extenuating circumstances that may cause a delay. It was be submitted, so be patient. I would send a polite e-mail after a month from the interview and ask about the whole package - a gentle reminder.

    USNA: "Exceptional Adversity" Question

If there are any lingering side effects from that incident, it might be important down the road - everyone attends fire fighting school and if that event created a fear/phobia of fire, it might be important. Living in a hotel for a few months probably wouldn't qualify, especially if it was...

Do USNA midshipmen have to parachute out of airplanes

Only parachuting a midshipmen would encounter would be if it were a part of a summer training program and given the opportunity to earn their "jump wings" ... and very few midshipmen are given that chance.
