    NROTC TWE

My DS was also denied the national scholarship about this time a year ago. He started Norwich with their Presidential Scholarship which saved us a ton, but then was awarded a 3.5 NROTC scholarship his 2nd semester.

Yes, I remember that day well. Sad day for sure. Good luck to yours in the 2nd time around! Mine just didn't have it in him.

Looking for more info about the NROTC OTSSN scholarship

He heard this morning he was selected for Project GO! He'll get to study the Chinese language and culture for 2 months in Taiwan this summer, courtesy of the DOD! Thankful he's being recognized for all his hard work (especially after the huge disappointment last year of being denied by both USNA...

Looking for more info about the NROTC OTSSN scholarship

Even though the email to my son said the CO could nominate up to 3 students, they actually awarded the scholarship to 4! I think there's just more scholarship money available this year, which I'm thankful for!

Looking for more info about the NROTC OTSSN scholarship

Just wanted to revisit this thread to say he got the scholarship! 👏👏👏 Now just waiting to hear back from Project GO to see if he'll get to study overseas this summer.

Looking for more info about the NROTC OTSSN scholarship

@Gnarlygoat27 oh that's great to hear about the waiver! I know that can be a real source of stress and frustration for some, so I'm glad your DS has overcome that hurdle. The interview for the OTSSN was about a week ago. My DS and I had a couple practice interview sessions over the phone and...

Looking for more info about the NROTC OTSSN scholarship

@Gnarlygoat27 Thanks for sharing your experience. Have they told your son if the scholarship covers part or all of his freshman year, or is it strictly a 3-year sideload? I'm under the impression that this is a separate process than the regular sideload, so if he doesn't get this "OTSSN"...

Looking for more info about the NROTC OTSSN scholarship

As always @GWU PNS (emeritus) your input is helpful and appreciated! I imagine if this is something new (or maybe for just this year - I have heard that NROTC side load scholarships are more plentiful now than in recent years past), then we may hear from others here on the forum that have the...

Looking for more info about the NROTC OTSSN scholarship

Yes, this is what I initially thought as well, until I realized that they are competing for a nomination and not the scholarship itself. I was just wondering where the process goes after the nominated are selected. @flieger83 Yes I was hoping @GWU PNS (emeritus) would give his insight so I'll...

Looking for more info about the NROTC OTSSN scholarship

My son is a freshman at Norwich and is currently a college programmer in the NROTC unit. He received an email a few days ago from his Naval Science instructor. This is what it said: The Commanding Officer of Norwich University NROTC can nominate up to three Freshman students for an "on-the-spot...

    NROTC Scholarship chances

Do you know if this increase applies to all scholarships (national & sideloads)? My son is a 4/C at a SMC and his NRTOC PNS has mentioned a few times that the Navy will be handing them out "like candy" this year 😂

Looking for updated max scores on NROTC AFA

Apologies - just realized the test he took today is the NROTC PFT. He is in a NROTC unit at a SMC. What is the purpose of the PFT? And when would he take the AFA?

Looking for updated max scores on NROTC AFA

All the info I've found online has scoring for a 1-mile run, but then someone on the forum said it's now 1.5-mile. Also, my son took the AFA today (ran the 1.5 miles) and was told the max pushups is 87 but I only found docs showing 75 max for men. Anyone have the most updated max scores?

    Norwich Class of 2027 thread

Good tip! I've told him that he has control over his thoughts and nobody else. He can choose how he processes the yelling. I have mentioned a similar strategy of having a secondary focus when he's being yelled at, so his mind is not prioritizing what is being said. Thankfully, they are not...

    Norwich Class of 2027 thread

Yes, I booked an Airbnb so he could have his own room! At least he'll get some privacy for a couple of days.
