If you wear contacts/glasses, you will submit your eye prescriptions with your PTR paperwork so can provide your “stylish” thick black rims for Plebe Summer. Make sure you have a current eye exam and a glasses prescription ready next month. (No contacts until the academic year begins).

**However, bring your personal glasses with you, or give them to someone who is at I-Day and will see you after the oath. No matter how early you submitted your paperwork, a few of them don’t get made every year and you won’t find out until you’re in-processed. My plebe was one of those, and thankfully I had his glasses in my backpack to give him after the oath before they marched back into Bancroft. Otherwise he would have been a little blind for the first few weeks!

My daughter got a pair at Costco- black frame- similar to the BCG's issued. Good thing she had them because her glasses weren't ready and when they were, the prescription was incorrect. No longer needs anything, thanks to PRK at Walter Reed!

Ahhh, too bad the days of the BCGs are long gone. They always made for fun back in the day!!

DD has 20:20 vision but is a touch farsighted. She only wears glasses in class or studying, bifocals, Plano to see the board and bifocal to read text directly in front of her.. How would this be handled?

While there are nuances, IN GENERAL, 20/20 OR Correctable to 20/20 is the standard. They will do an eye exam as part of the DoDMERB
physical.

She would submit her glasses prescription to have the military issue pair made and then she chooses when to wear them during Plebe Summer. My mid’s glasses correct an astigmatism but he doesn’t need them all the time. He didn’t wear them for PEP, runs, high ropes, O and E courses, etc- but he did wear them for classes, lecture, rifle range, etc.

Once the academic year starts in August, they go back to wearing their own glasses/contacts.

Thank you. This was very helpful. She would probably wear for classes but not rifle range.
