Any advice or recommendations for my DS graduation gift ideas? Curious on what others have gotten or insights to what would have been a great gift. TIA

I think we are getting our DS an iPad for a grad gift. I have read that they use them to take notes at the academies.

For Christmas we got him a nice leather carry-on size duffel bag to travel with. We had a small area laser engraved with his initials and a scripture verse.

High school graduation?

I have no experience with service academy students but I recommend that incoming freshman can use the following: a cheap plastic watch with alarm, gift cards for the local joints or travel home, a "Write in the rain" pencil and pad, or other practical gifts. I recommend staying away from military-based gifts at this point.

Leatherman are a great gift as they will serve well for SA or college and beyond. There are also alot of options in price so they can fit in any budget.

Yes, HS grad. With DS going into the SA this is not typical when trying to look online for ideas.

I teach high school and have no ideas. I always ask my wife what I should get her for the dozens of reasons to buy her things throughout the year. I'm no good at thinking of gift ideas except if I were your son I'd like to have a new car.

My daughter is graduating from USAFA this month. When she graduated HS we bought her a small portable projector. This was a huge hit since they cannot have very many personnel items in their room. Her and her friends on the weekend would hang a bed sheet on the wall and watch movies. She used it throughout her time at the academy.

Are they able to take the IPad with them on I day or do you bright it on parents weekend?

It depends: cash for grads outside the family with the amount correlated to closeness. Within the family I got my older kids laptops for their journey to college, but my CGA DD got an iPad since that's what she was used to using in school and she had an issued laptop. (The iPad was delayed until the school year started.) Other thoughts for an academy-bound child might be a cheap watch for swab summer plus a wad of cash. There's a lot of deferred joy in this path, and money waits better than many gifts.

Any size or recommendations for the duffel bag? Looking at getting one as well.

I made sure to keep it carry-on size. Most airlines use 22 x 14 x 9 inches for their carry-on maximum. He has already used it quite a bit and really likes it. It also has a compartment at the bottom for shoes or boots.
