Ring dance

I hope the 2011 Mids are having a great time at Ring Dance.

I hope they have a great weekend and not puke all over the place for the Plebe's to clean up. haha

After going through 3 years of the place, and 300+ days at sea and sea projects, I think these kids deserve all the accolades and recognition of that effort. They are also sharing it with someone very special as well.

Thanks to all who have made it special.

ShutterbugC: You are simply off topic, despite the 'haha'.

I know several of the 09 Mids were part of a beauty pageant at a Polish Festival at one of the local townships on Long Island. They obtained their dates from there.

Polish American Beauty Pageant Contestants ---- woo woo, sweet! "Let's all hear a round of applause for the lovely Beatka, her evening gown is a provocative open backed, silver silk number by Vera Wang. Later in the talent competition, she will be showing us how she can keep 7 hula hoops in motion while wearing the same Blue Man Bikini she'll be modeling in the swimsuit portion of the pageant. That should be really special."

Sound's a far cry better than what we had to do back in the day - cruise the mixers at the predominately woman's colleges - Molloy and Mount Saint Vincents and hope that not all the girls knew the somewhat mixed reputation we Kings Pointers and SUNY-MC guys had. Of course there was also The Dublin Pub, with the absolutely mediocre, but very loud music by the owner's band - "The Boston Burglers"....

Seriously hope they all have/had a great evening, it's always a memorable time one way or the other!

:yllol::yllol::yllol::yllol: Oh my Jasperdog. What a giggle.

There never seemed to be a lack of Mid Hounds from what I could tell.

I am looking foward to seeing pictures of the Ring Dance. If I rememebr correctly last year a professional photographer was there taking pictures so family and friends could purchase them. Did that happen this year? Also, who did the dipping?

Not sure about the photographer. I talked with him on Friday and he said the class of 2011 had not hired him. ugh! so far only photos I've seen are from the dates on facebook.

ohs noes! Oversight by 2011. And I kept checking and checking his site.
I think his stuff looks nigh-on to perfect.

Forget the dates!!!

My DD and her girl friends decided they would all go to the Ring Dance together. LOL It was easier to figure out the hotel rooms, didn't have to pay for a plane ticket or hotel and from all reports, THE DANCE WAS GREAT!!! Their 'date' girlfriend participated in the dipping ceremony for the rings.

There was only 1 "bummer' -- DD had her Italian Leather Purse (bought 2nd sea year), her and roommates phones, cameras (with all the Dance Pictures), money and credit card......you guessed it, STOLEN. There were more tears over the camera than anything else. All cards were cancelled immediately using someone elses phone. SADLY, the girls decided to go back to USMMA and not stay in NYC. Boo-Hiss it was quite a damper for the Dance. THANK GOODNESS that their rings were around their necks or they would have been gone also....

ABOUT FACE: Facing forward to Parents Weekend and lots of hugs and love you's

Dipping Ceremony

Before a 1/c can officially wear their USMMA class ring there is a Ceremony at the Ring Dance. The ring is worn around their necks at first and then it is 'dipped' in a large glass bowl containing the waters of the 7 Seas on earth.

Jasperdog.....or other alumni could tell you about all of the rest of the Tradition......this is just waht is remembered by a Mom....

Who is responsible for getting the water?

Whoever is closest to the water fountain at time to get the water for the ceremony.

For real, it's all rain water, it all originates from the seven seas, so there's never a shortage and all it takes is going to the ole bubbler.

Actually they will assign the job to the most highly thought of third and second classmen who return from sea in time for the dance. You can basically consider yourself out of the running for any future leadership position if not chosen

Waterfront Mids also get a special dip of Hague Basin water from the Sailing Master.

Oh No! And here I thought I actually stood a chance of actually seeing pics of DD at an event. (She is terrible about posting photos or sharing them with the parents!)
