Ok here is the situation I have been in the Army on active duty for almost 10 years now. I am currently on my 4th deployment. I have been working to enter the green to gold program for a few years now and I have finally completed all the college and the rest of the requirements. At this point I have submitted my paperwork to DODMERB and I find out I am being DQ for 3 things. 1st thing a history of mood disorder, 2nd history of anxiety and 3rd a history of alcoholism. Ok all three of these events occured after my second tour which was a rough one where I lost 8 good friends. After the tour I started voluntarily recieving counseling because of irritablity and depression and sleeping problems. I then changed duty stations and stopped the counseling because of it. I was away from all my friends and family in a particulary bad time and started to drink too much. I realized it was a problem and refered myself to the army substance abuse program in order to recieve some help. All said and done none of these things ever impacted my work or home life and I have been cleared to deploy two times since then. I do not understand how the army advocates seeking help at the same time will penalize you in the future for it. I have written a letter to DODMERB trying to explain the situation and recieved another mental evaluation by a Major who runs the combat stress clinic where I am at. He wrote DODMERB a letter of recommendation as well which was mailed around the 3rd of may. As of right now my satus says pending waiver submission/review. The last update was on the 17th of may saying disqualification. I do not know if that was before or after they recieved my letter and the DR's letter, I have no real idea of whats going on.
