Class of 2017 Mailbox Stalkers Club

I just called the admissions office, and my counselor told me that yesterday they were informed that we should all hear something by the end of this week. Good luck, everyone.
My DS (ACS) remains very confident and hopeful that he will get good news.

If it is correct that the date to be notified is moving forward 10 days to the end of this week I think that this would indicate that the direct appointments are just about finished. Either way it is getting close and knowing will be a good thing.

This is one of "life's lessons", sometimes you follow your intended path and reach your destination quickly and directly. Sometimes, despite your hard work, you find your path is blocked and full of challenges and you must take a less desirable fork in the road to reach your final destination.

Good luck to all who are waiting!

Active duty personnel is usually notified of their selection to the AFA or Prep school by their commander. As the nominating source, they are usually really excited to tell you. :yllol:

I know the waiting is hard but the AF will make your move happen quickly if you get an appointment to either AFA or Prep. I know several of the airman on the boards from last year had issues with their orders and in the end it all worked out. My son out processed in less than a week (from Europe) and gave a good friend power of attorney to have his room packed up. It was stressful but he got it all done.

Good luck.

Only reason I need to know when is because Active Duty have to PCS instead of just going, which means outprocessing our base which can be a 1-3 week process. And being in Alaska makes it a bit worse regarding travel and shipment of household goods.

Yes, it feels late. You are doing really well if you are just NOW feeling uneasy :) For our fam, this has been a faith-walk, we have learned loads and grown in trusting Him.

Remember, if you got this far, you are an amazingly talented and hard-working individual. It is easy to put your whole worth in getting that appointment - but it is just one reflection of your worth.
Oh yeah, for us too!!!

The way it works is if you are selected, the Academy gives a grace period of I believe seven days to give your nominating source the courtesy of notifying you IF THEY WANT TO. They are not required to notify you. Once the grace period is over they will update your portal with your notification.

We posted this in another thread, but the MOC that nominated my son lost his election in November, so we will not get a call or a letter from him. I think he had sour grapes too, because DS got the notification letter that he had received a nom kind of late, and there was no press release or picture of the MOC nom group in the paper or anything.

Still stalking the portal and the mailbox, the email box and the texts!!!!

I was just going to post that Skymom could tell you it is possible to move with very short notice.
Also, my DS, who is Prior Enlisted, and now at the Prep school, had issues with his orders last year. It was stressful, but it's amazing how they make it work.

I just received an email about a message from admissions but the sight seems to be running slow... hopefully it's good news!

Let us know! I had a new message on my portal; however, it said
"The majority of appointments for the Air Force Academy Class of 2017 have been made. In rare cases some additional appointments may be made if an opening becomes available. We will be selecting USAFA Preparatory School and Falcon Foundation Scholarship candidates in April and May. If you are selected for one of our preparatory programs, you will be notified through your portal. If you are not selected for one of our preparatory programs, we will not send additional correspondence."

I hope you have good news! :thumb:

Oh! Well, in that case, we'll see once I can actually get logged in to the website. I'm getting a 500 internal server error.

I got am email, but I can't log in either!! This has been the most suspenseful 20 minutes of my life!

Congrats on your USNA appointment.

Were you able to access your on-line application and is that what the message said?

Yes. I just spammed opening it for 5 minutes and it actually worked once.

Typical "new message" and a simple QNS. When I tried to open the actual letter, the internal service error came again and I just quit.

But, good luck to the rest of you. Even if I was appointed to AFA, I'd go Navy anyways!

GOOD LUCK :thumb:

What's a QNS?

QNS is the same thing as QNV or Qualified No Vacancy.

And for those who have received this, I am sorry. I know how it feels. Some may be okay with it, but I imagine most are upset like I was at this same time last year. Just know that they still have prep school and falcon scholarships to award. If you get this opportunity, take it. You will not regret it. Work hard, reapply, and show them how much you want it.

Just checked my portal. Looks like I will not be joining the class of 2017. I did all I could to become a better candidate the second time around, but I guess I wasn't the candidate they were looking for. It's been a great ride, and best of luck to everyone! :thumb:

SDK,

This game is not over yet.
It is too early to say that and don't give up hope.
And I'd like to see you on I-day. My DS also.

QNS

DS was finally able to open the email. Unfortunately, it was QNS for admission as well as not selected for the prep program. He is disappointed but feels very fortunate to have a solid plan B and has received a 4-year AFROTC Technical Scholarship.

Congrats to all of those of you who received appointments to the class of 2017!

No appointment for me, oh well.

Did you're message say that you did not receive an appointment?
I am so sorry!!! I know that it is not a good feeling. I have not heard anything definite yet, but I am fairly sure I did not receive an appointment either.

Best of luck to you!
