Class of 2017 Mailbox Stalkers Club

Did you're message say that you did not receive an appointment?
I am so sorry!!! I know that it is not a good feeling. I have not heard anything definite yet, but I am fairly sure I did not receive an appointment either.

Best of luck to you!

Don't lose hope, Ready for the Challenge, I have a friend who JUST got informed that he go in.

For anyone that gets a QNS/QNV, feel free to message me if you're considering a prep school. I will absolutely share what my experience was like at NWP. I think it's a GREAT option for SOME people.

DS was finally able to open the email. Unfortunately, it was QNS for admission as well as not selected for the prep program. He is disappointed but feels very fortunate to have a solid plan B and has received a 4-year AFROTC Technical Scholarship.

Congrats to all of those of you who received appointments to the class of 2017!

Prep School and Falcon scholarships go out later. He very well may get news in the next month. I'm sorry, and I hope your son enjoys AFROTC!

Just checked my portal. Looks like I will not be joining the class of 2017. I did all I could to become a better candidate the second time around, but I guess I wasn't the candidate they were looking for. It's been a great ride, and best of luck to everyone! :thumb:

I'm so sorry man. I know you've worked hard for this, and that you really wanted it. You've been very encouraging to me and to a lot of other readers and posters on this forum, and for that I thank you. Let me know if you ever need anything. See you on FB.

^I second that. I've been there and it feels like the worst thing in the world. Don't ever give up though!!! As Colin Powell once said, "Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and PERSISTENCE."

I wish you all the best of luck with potential Falcon Foundation scholarships, prep school slots, or whatever else you go on to excel at!!!

What to do?

I have no idea what I should do because I want to reapply to the Air Force Academy but if I dont get inot the prep school I will have to go to Colorado State on an army ROTC scholarship because that is where the money is..... would it hurt my changes if I reapplied to AFA if I was on a Army ROTC scholarship

We were at church tonight and DS was stalking his email and the portal. He is a no go. :(
He is bummed but is glad that he is still a go for TAMU this fall on his AFROTC scholarship.
Now we just have to come up with enough money for housing, lol!!!!

Thanks LFrey94 for your words of encouragement they are appreciated. He is disappointed but thankful at the same time.

His note states:
"Thank you for applying to the Class of 2017; however I am sorry to inform you we will not be able to admit you to the Air Force Academy or one of our preparatory programs this year."

He took that to mean he wouldn't be considered for prep/falcon scholarships either.

Yep got denied here to, guess its off to prep school$$$ and reapply here :/

Things Seems to Always Work Out

You caught my attention last year (if I remember right, you're a fellow Okie?) and I have been keeping track of your status again this year. Sorry to hear the news. I too had to get over some disappointment from USAF many years ago. As you can tell by my avatar, things worked out better than I ever could have imagined, with no regrets. They will for you also. Just keep up the hard work and your spirits soaring. Best of luck to you.

It shouldn't hurt your chances at all. I imagine in interviews (for nominations and the like) they might ask you why you applied to USAFA when you're in Army ROTC, but other than that I think it would only look good on your application.

Interesting. I've never seen or heard of that before. I guess I know about as much as you do at this point then.

I hope all goes well, and I wish him luck if he chooses to reapply.

TWEmail for our DS too :(

We join the ranks of the disappointed.

BUT, grateful for an AFROTC scholarship and perhaps a reapply next year.

Skydiving kittens, my heart goes out to you especially. And to the other hopefuls for whom the wait is over. For now.

SDK, I have enjoyed reading your posts the past year. I especially enjoy the anecdotes my son shares from your days at NWP. You are an intelligent and determined scholar, an extremely talented athlete, and you have a great sense of humor. I am confident you will excel at USMMA. Good luck to you! The armed forces are lucky to have you!

Thank you all for your kind words! I just accepted my USMMA and will be reporting for Indoc early July!

SDK and Abigail,

Congrats on your appointments to USMMA and USNA respectably. Thank you for your participation in the USAFA threads and I wish you both the best!!

It kills me to hear about all of this, especially knowing that I was in the same position last year. All I can say is that I truly believe everything happens for a reason. As crazy as it may sound, I am glad that I didn't get in last year. I have learned SO much this prep year. To those of you who are looking into reapplying, I strongly encourage you to look at MMI. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions at all. My motto still: you haven't failed. You've just been given another year to try. Best luck to all of you, because regardless of your appointment status, you made it to this point and will succeed in whatever path you choose to follow with a can-do attitude.

SDK, I am truly disappointed to see you go- but I know that you will be a great addition to the USMMA family. I wish you the absolute best in your endeavors and can't wait to see what the future has in store for you.

All of the Good Things About the USMMA

Thank you all for your kind words! I just accepted my USMMA and will be reporting for Indoc early July!

As I have said, I have or have had kids at both the USAFA and the USMMA. My DS is a junior there right now. He believes it was a GREAT choice for him. Here's why:
1. Options, Options, Options!
Every time that we talk, he has a different idea of what he wants to do next year. He might sail. He may commission into the AF and fly (or Navy, or Marines, or the ANG...). He may work for a ship broker. Every USMMA grad makes BIG BUCKS if they work in the maritime industry after graduation. You get to choose your path.

2. Location, Location, Location!
The USMMA is a 25 minute train ride from Times Square. You can bet the Mids enjoy everything that NYC and the East Coast have to offer!

3. Exciting times!
During your sophomore and junior years, you will go to sea for a few months. My DS is currently on a ship based in Japan. He is having the time of his life during this Sea Year, and has become quite the world traveler as he flies around the world to meet up with his different boats. Great times and great stories!

4. Connections!
The USMMA has the most loyal alumni base that I have ever seen. They network, help each other, and hire the midshipmen as soon as they graduate. Many Fortune 500 companies have executives that went to Kings Point. It's really impressive.

Please don't look at the USMMA as a second choice- see it as another path. To be honest, my mid's USAFA pilot brother has said more than once that he wishes he had known about all the USMMA had to offer. :)

Kings Point is a really neat place and you won't be sorry!

Blue Skies
