USAFAPS Questions

now when did reconditioning end? and isn't basic only 8 days? doubt you could make much improvement...

Like AFrpaso said, basic is three weeks. Reconditioning starts after basic and you will get a chance to get out of reconditioning once per quarter. If you fail to get above 250 on your test, you will stay in reconditioning for the following quarter. From experience I can say that most people get out of reconditioning their first quarter.

Was looking over the Required items list and saw a few things that caught my eye. I'd appreciate if someone with prep school experience could answer a few questions I had regarding the required items list.

Plain White Athletic Crew Socks QTY: 3
Crew socks are the socks that go 1/3 way up your leg would standard white ankle socks work or are they really required to be crew socks?

Black leather service shoes (NO patent leather or Corofram) QTY 2
I know it specifically says no Corofram but seeing as the standard issue service shoes are now Corofram, I'm thinking this might be outdated. Any insight?

Khaki pants (full length, no cargo pants, light color) QTY 1
Light color? Do they want grey/white khakis or what do Cadet candidates normally bring and when would we wear them?

Brown leather shoes (plain, slip on or laced)
I don't have any brown leather shoes would I be better off to buy them when I need them there?

I know I'm being a bit detailed but from my experience Air Force "Required items list" are always a bit overboard and include items you don't really need

They don't really have to be crew. I brought ankle socks

Black leather service shoes (NO patent leather or Corofram) QTY 2
No corofram. I brought mine thinking the same thing. They just sat in my closet for the entire year, and you wear blues four days a week. I made it by with just one pair though.

Khaki pants (full length, no cargo pants, light color) QTY 1
That beige khaki. There will be a lot of variety among C/Cs, so don't worry about a specific shade. These are usually worn in place of ABU/Blues when civilian clothes have yet to be authorized but you want to go off base or something. Sometimes worn at official Prep School functions (a few times at the AFA football games) or when representing the P while doing volunteer work.

Brown leather shoes (plain, slip on or laced)
I don't recall having time to buy shoes before we were required to wear the husky gear (AFPrep shirt, khaki pants, shoes). That's a gamble you'll have to make yourself.

Thanks AFrpaso this helps alot.

Ya I plan to. I'm trying to pack as light as possible but even if I bring just the things on the required list my baggage will be pretty hefty.

That's why I'm trying to find out if we're able to get some uniforms reissued at the Prep. Buying 4 new pairs of blues shirts and some pants (gained weight since basic) will take up more room in baggage. Our uniform store isn't the greatest here either.. And yes i understand I still have to pay, but easier access to my size and less to carry while traveling are pretty nice.

I remember seeing that the priors arrived with their green duffel bags stuffed full with their uniforms.

Starting to get excited July 10th is getting closer and closer!

Would you recommend studying for "Placement tests" or would I be better off not to?

You're going to be so exhausted when it comes time to take them that you'll probably fall asleep (or barely stay awake) during the tests. If I remember right, no matter how well you do on those tests, you'll take the same 1st quarter classes as everyone else. I think the test is less for placement and more for statistics at the end of the year to see how well you improved. I'm pretty sure I got around a 60% on the algebra/trig test, and like a 20% on the chemistry test.

Heads up they issued a stop order for all most PCS's to all the bases in colorado but be rest assured cadets and incoming cadet candidates are exempt. I have confirmed this exemption with POC for the stop order and am waiting a response from the prep school to confirm.

The same thing happened because of last years fires. You should be fine.

I was looking at the Priors What to bring list and noticed that it didn't include PT gear or service coat. Should I bother bringing either?

I think we get issued the officer Service Coat, and the Prep and Academy have different PT clothes than the regular issued PT clothes.

You get issued a different service coat and the PT gear is prep school specific PT gear.

Last year the priors were told not to bring pt gear. We ended up using it for the first week before direct entries arrived. I'd bring one set.

I am having trouble with one of the items on the list.. With the brown shoes being a girl which should I buy? Is there a specific brand that is good?

Use the contact email at the bottom of the electronic welcome package. They should respond in about 24 hours.
