The Coast Guard Cutter ALDER, a 225-foot seagoing buoy tender home-ported in Duluth, Minn., is scheduled to offer public tours while moored at Chicago's Navy Pier on Thursday July 11 and Friday July 12 from 2 - 4 p.m. and from 6 - 8 p.m. each day. If you are considering USCGA here is a great opportunity to see a working Coast Guard ship and talk to the officers and crew about life in the Coast Guard.

The ALDER is a multi-mission cutter that conducts aids-to-navigation, ice-breaking, law enforcement, and search-and-rescue missions throughout the Coast Guard 9th District, which spans the entire Great Lakes region. USCGC ALDER is in Chicago to support the Chicago-Mackinac Island Sail Boat Race, the largest and oldest inland sial boat race in America, with 350 sailboats expected to start the race on Saturday.
