Do service academies verify extra curricular activities by contacting coaches/club advisors/ etc during application process?

It is verified through your high school guidance counselor.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the your entries for extracurriculars and such are verified solely by your guidance counselor.

Someone once told me that they thought it was used for security clearance checks and other purposes later on in the Navy career. I thought this seemed a bit odd, so someone correct me if I'm wrong
