Hello. I was browsing some precious examples of the PTR packet and noticed there was a dental section. It requests x-rays and a checkup from your dentist/orthodontist. I have a fake front tooth that isn't an implant (it's pretty much just a mold cemented to the two adjacent front teeth). On x-rays it looks like a have a tooth missing. I'm pretty sure DODMERB knows about the tooth, but I was wondering if the the issue could be grounds for medical disqualification come I-Day?

P.S. The tooth is a simple cosmetic issue as I have been living with the fake since 3rd grade.

Just an addition, the Academy knows about the tooth, I just don't want there to be any odd surprises come I-Day

Were you looking at an old PTR packet? I don't think they require any of the dental stuff anymore. However.......there is a thorough dental examination about a week into Plebe Summer. If you told DODMERB about your situation, there shouldn't be an issue
 
I was looking at the class of 2017's packet so it wasn't that old. I told DODMERB, but the paperwork got messed up in the computer and the doctor I went see for the examination was in charge of writing down all that got messed up due to the computer issue, but I'm pretty sure she mentioned the tooth in her write up.

It would only be an issue if you misrepresented something on your forms -- e.g. you answered 'no' to a question like, "do you have any crowns, prosthetics, or implants?"

Other than that, it's nothing to worry about.
 
On a somewhat related note, I wear a retainer but only at night. Is this something I'll need to tell DODMERB at some point or is it not important?

Yes. U need to report that as part of your PTR pack. Navy dentist on yard will need to know. Or stop wearing ret and risk it. Lol
 
But having retainers only at night won't count against me in any way will it?

Son used his sleeping retainer all Plebe summer-and still does. No worries. (I dont remember him reporting it. It honestly is such a non-issue, not worth thinking about at all)

If you don't wear your retainer during plebe summer your teeth will shift and your retainer wont work any more. Not a good idea after your parents probably spent a fortune getting your teeth fixed.

You don't need to get x-rays or stuff like that. But if you do have something wrong with your teeth, I would mention it to the doctor that gives you a physical exam.
