The situation is that a student applied but did not get a CGA appointment. In addition to all the reapply advice on the SAF, when the student attends a college and copies the CGA courses what are the considerations for joining an ROTC program to gain military experience as well?

I'm confused. What do you mean by ROTC program and military experience? Are you talking about applying the ROTC classes to the application package? Or perhaps if the ROTC military training would offset some of the military training at CGA?

I'm afraid you need to be a bit more specific on your question.

The student wants to enroll at local college or university taking classes that emulate the first year classes at CGA with the plan to reapply to the CGA. Should the student join the college/university ROTC program in order gain some military training and experience? Of course none of the classes taken at the college/university are non-transferable to CGA. In addition to the students personal growth, would this help on the reapplication? Thanks for your help.

@Idzak search my posts. My son was a two time applicant to USCGA. He went the CC route. happily, there is no one-size fits all path. Hard work and perseverance and a wee bit if good fortune are the tickets to success. Where you study is less important than how you do in those classes.

I would recommend the student to take the ROTC classes. Not only will it provide some form of military experience, but it may also provide leadership experience. Additionally, if reapplying to CGA does not work out, the student can seek a commission through DCSS which requires two years of a ROTC program.
