Sea Cadets... Sound Off

This is really disappointing to hear, especially since the Navy helps fund the Sea Cadets program

Your comment made me want to learn more, as I have a lot of gaps in my knowledge of Sea Cadets. Interesting about the funding challenges:

As a Navy Recruiting Command sponsored program, it makes sense that it contributes value as an experiential program designed to foster interest in and awareness of the sea services. As I noted in an earlier post, I suspect most officers are only vaguely familiar with it. "Sponsored" in the military sense means CNRC budgets some funds for it, and opens doors for the use of Navy assets for training experiences. This investment creates a pool of potential candidates for enlisted programs by developing interest and appreciation for military service. It certainly performs the same function for those interested in college ROTC or an SA, but those programs are looking for additional cap feathers, in terms of athletics, community leadership, Scouts, Boys State, all the things routinely seen here in the well-rounded candidate. The hands-on experiences and interaction with active duty folks are certainly valuable.
As more officers come from Sea Cadet beginnings, awareness will increase over time.

Capt MJ brings up a key point, especially with BGO and nomination interviews: Cadets must do their due diligence to explain their leadership and academic involvement and HOW the Sea Cadet program contributes to their success. I'll say it until I cheer for Army: The program is not a fast track to a service academy.
