Hello all. I have a cousin that's currently attending this summer as a Plebe. Her parents are in Guam and they reached out to me since I live near the area. They are asking me to send her some items through the following address

MIDN _/C Name
__ Company, __ Platoon, __ Squad
Annapolis, MD 21412

She will be competing in the Rio Olympics 2016 (running event) and is requesting to be sent some protein supplements to help with her diet and exercise that she is currently going through. Would the address above suffice if I were to go and order from somewhere like Vitamin World or GNC (not really sure if there's a local store close to her that would be better).

Would I be able to buy locally and possibly go to the Naval Academy and drop it off or something? Would that be allowed?

I read on their website they only accept USPS, but I feel like that content may be a little outdated. Any help you guys could provide would be so helpful.

I don't think a Squad number or _/C is required for plebe summer.

MIDN_______________
________Company, _______Platoon
Annapolis, MD 21412

And I'd send in a flat rate priority box through USPS ONLY!
(Please include a note to the box that says "nodiva thinks you are a BA for making the Olympics and competing AFTER plebe summer)

Only USPS. I had great trouble with UPS and Fedex.

Wish I knew more of the story! I combed navysports press releases, Big Navy press releases, TeamUSA website and press releases on military team members, but military-affiliated team member lists didn't show a Navy female track athlete that seemed to be a match. I think the TeamUSA roster was just announced today, 23 July, with several hundred members, so I probably didn't catch it in my quick scan. There will probably be coverage in local media - look forward to that.

I assume she is going to be on USNA women's track team, so I am sure the Navy coaches are keeping a special eye out for her health and nutrition.

Should be an interesting interruption to her USNA life. The services have traditionally been very supportive of Olympic Trials and Games participants.

The mailing address you have should work. Agree with USPS Priority mail box. If you order from GNC or other retailer, you will probably have to specify USPS, as they might default to FEDEX or UPS.

Dropping off - not recommended in this situation.

The 21412 is the USNA mid-only zip code, and the staff in the USNA USPS office are experienced hands with plebe mail.

Presuming she is a varsity track athlete, she likely has a track locker already assigned to her and she goes there 5-6 times per week to prepare for the Sports Period (she will be with her track team). My son's varsity team coach said we could send care packages through him and he would place them in his locker. If you wanted to hand deliver the protein powder, you might be able to give it to the track coach who could place it in her locker (ask her parents if they have his/her email address - our son's coach has corresponded a few times with the Plebe Parents (we had a team social event the day before I Day). Of note, there is a sign in my son's locker room that said "all nutritional supplements need to be approved by the team trainer" so sending it through the coach would allow the coaching staff to be involved in her nutrition. Finally, they sell protein powder in the Mid Shop but she'll not have too many opportunities this summer to go there.

Go Navy, Beat Army!
Go USA!

Contact Coach Criste of USNA Women's Track. I am certain special arrangements are being made for her as she preps for the Olympics.

Coach Criste's contact information is in the Athletic Directory and she is also an Assistant Athletic Director.

The plebe being discussed is competing under the Guam flag not Team USA, so you would have to look under Guam's team to find her listed and yes she will be on the USNA Track team

Don't send supplements. Most off the shelf supplements will not pass NCAA or IOC drug testing standards. The track team is watching her closely and providing what she needs if she needs supplements. USNA purchases lots of supplements such as protein powder for the athletes to use to prevent them from using items that can cause trouble with drug testing. More than anything she need calories and support. The track coaches are watching her closely for over use injuries, specific training and nutrition to ensure she can get to Rio. Call the coaches or email, introduce yourself, and then ask if there anything specific she needs that would help.

It may be the best thing you can do is visit with her on Plebe Parent Weekend, especially if other family can't be there.
