Quotes from the plebes

While changing into PT gear in the hotel, I noticed my DS was hanging/clipping his pants upside down rather than folding them over the coat hanger. I asked him if he got tired of having to keep his uniform so perfect. And he said, "No, I love this uniform. When we tried it on the day before the baseball game, I got chills, because this is the uniform I've always imagined myself wearing. And wearing is always special to me."

My Plebe has a similar perspective. Hates the work whites (potato sacks), thinks the blue camo is "sick" (as in good, though rather hot), but the summer whites are the uniform. Excited to have a few things on his that stand out and looking forward to the opportunity earn new "devices."

Question:
"Are you still on quadruple sirs?"

Answ:
"No Dad they moved me from quadruple sirs up to octuple sirs. It actually works out pretty well. We chopp down a hall and we're supposed to recite stuff to the detailers, but by the time I get out 8 sirs I'm past them, down the hall, and out of ear-shot".

My kid laughed alot and maybe even clowned abit as she worked through PS. Sounds like she did just fine making herself a place in the squad; not so good at "holding bearing" though. .

Interesting perspective .... sure, whites look cool, but they get dirty fast. Always prefered SDB's as a liberty uniform. Maybe times have changed, but he/she will learn to love white works. In my time, we got to wear them to class if we had PE , and they were alot more comfortable than wearing tie to class.

There are many more females than when I was there. I used to get stopped walking down Stribling and often heared 'look there is a girl one! Let's get her picture!' Hopefully with the females making up more of the Brigade This novelty has worn off.
Yes, the novelty has worn off; but do you mind if we get a picture Hoops? LOL.

not with Brovol who made fun of white shoes...;)

Reform today, which means nose-counting for 4000+. Meetings. Briefs. Musters. Endless plebe Stuff To Do. Watch-standing. Lines at the Mid Store. Lines for issue stuff. Possible random or all hands urinalysis. And classes looming. Email avalanche with more required stuff with due dates. Plebes will long for the sleep they got over the summer and the relatively uncomplicated life they lived. More freedom, more stuff to do, more autonomy, more responsibility to self-steer.

Grindstone has arrived. Noses are pressed to it. Only 8 semesters to go. Thanksgiving seems light years away.

Don't be surprised if you have a very quick phone call or text with a faint tang of OMG.

In that case, I'll resist the urge to tell him any stories about his friends who've been shopping for little refrigerators and reading pillows and complaining about how busy they are.

Some, if not all, have already got their phones back. Your DS might have already heard it directly from his friends...sorry to break that to you! :D

They do have one last parade at 1730 today... Hopefully you will hear from him tonight.

He definitely heard it over the weekend, which is why I think he was down when we left.

Don't worry all Plebes go through the phase of 'oh man look at what my buddies are doing.' Then in the not too far future they will be having the times of their life with pictures of summer cruise in the med, flying an airplane, firing weapons, in the Alaskan outback. Oh yeah that whole graduate in 4 with a cool job isn't bad either. It won't be long after they visit their buddies back home and won't be jealous of their 'normal college life' and then say 'man, I couldn't imagine doing that.'

Exactly so too! They figure out how to handle it, and they will be those confident, smiling upperclass soon enough.

When my now 2nd class mid was in San Diego the summer after his plebe year, he was on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. He was actually at the helm and wondered what his civilian college friends were doing because "nothing beats this."

During parents weekend my plebe had a chance to peruse social media for the first time since I-day. He said: Man all my friends are talking about how they are excited to go to their colleges and I want to get away from mine for a while." But I overheard him tell his best friend on the phone "I'm really glad I did this."

DD got to fly a jet trainer (command pilot, Do you like rollercoasters?), Fleet Week in Boston and drive a Boomer out of Kings Bay (Captain was same Company at USNA). You don't get to do that at State U.
